flatcat19
Kudos, rick! Go get that fucker running! Quote Link to comment
Datsundude123
Did you watch the videos that Hainz posted? Everything you need to know about timing your L motor is covered in his videos. You're not even trying. One of these days that spoon will be gone. I watched the whole video but I couldn't tell how the cam was set! Sorry for asking a simple question. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
I watched the whole video but I couldn't tell how the cam was set! Sorry for asking a simple question.Look at cyl #1 when at TDC. Every cylinder will be on TDC when you adjust it. Problem with that...has your crank/cam timing correct? Not positive that had ever been verified. Quote Link to comment

flatcat19
How was it verified? Quote Link to comment
Datsundude123
How was it verified? I said that it was all timed and it is! Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
All of a sudden, were supposed to take your word for it? How do you know? One tooth off can change everything. Quote Link to comment
Datsundude123
This is it at tdc! Quote Link to comment
distributorguy
Did you follow my steps to get timing set, so you can actually watch the spark at 10-15 BTDC? If so, then you should be able to squirt fuel into the angled vent tubes inside the mouth of the carb, and it should fire and try to run. I use a refillable restaurant style condiment bottle (clear ketchup bottle). Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
This is it at tdc! The tube on the far left coming from the intake. Is the brake booster hose on it. Is the smaller hose on the side plugged? Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
This is it at tdc! Your cam is where it's supposed to be. Doesn't mean the crank is. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
OK He has a 3 hole cam sprocket( the USA made version) so he will never see the V notch and dash line up. The Jap 4 hole and mutihole ones you should see the cam timming marks on the cam tower plate. To me its close enough to run, but not positive. even with a tooth off on the chain it should still run Quote Link to comment
distributorguy
The distributor is sitting on the starter. How can the motor be timed??? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Right now they're trying to confirm the cam timing. With all the assumptions and false starts it might be a good idea to have a posted picture of the crank pulley mark and the timing scale to confirm TDC.. What about that brake booster vacuum line that looks open??? 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
So the tube is open??? Well there's another vacuum leak to plug. 1 Quote Link to comment
bilzbobaggins
Promise that you will never try and rebuild the hitachi carb on this truck. Keep plugging away at this. Your going to get it Quote Link to comment
Datsundude123
So I got it to start while I was testing the spark but I turned it off to put the #1 spark plug back in and it wouldn't fire back up I added a chassis to motor ground and I fixed the valve lash Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Next time use a spare plug for that. You're close. Anything connected to the intake must be closed to the outside air. The only air drawn into the engine should go through the carb. 1 Quote Link to comment

Ok and shouldn't the spark plug be sparking all of the time cause it only sparks in a few different spots and those spots that it sparks in it won't start! Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
You checking from the coil center wire place near chassis? if sparks consisitancely then its good I would say. If you cking from the sparkplugs thats a different story. Quote Link to comment
