MikeRL411
Not much into Soft Rock! I was at the original Allen Fried's Rock and Roll show at the Brooklyn Paramount. In my opinion, the best performance was by Screaming Jay Hawkins who was carried onstage by two "zombies" and then leaped from the coffin and did "I'm Gonna Put a Spell on You". You don't hear too much about him because he didn't kiss ass for Dick Clark and was ignored by most all subsequent Rock and Roll review programs which not so coincidentally were staged by Dick Clark. Little Anthony and the Imperials were not so hot in my personal opinion. Les Paul and Mary Ford had to use Mary's sister singinging backstage to simulate the delayed vocals since the Brooklyn Paramount was seriously lacking in audio correct facilities. They were there to assuage the parents that this was not a "one race" show. Don't bother pissing on my leg, I was there! The movies were almost correct, but the cops only moved in because the idiots were doing what would later be called the smooze pit and crowding the aisles and immediate stage front. 1 Quote Link to comment
