Kolbis77
Does anybody know if I could put a chevy small block in my 510. Or how much wwork it would be. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
If I were to tell you no would you lose the silly thought of stuffing a SBC into a cherished, collectible car? No. Won't work. Never will fit. Moving on now. 2 Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
You could put a small block in anything. It would be alot of work. Moral of story: Don't do it. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Why a SBC? At least get creative if you are planning on ruining a car anyways. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It will handle like a bloated turd. If your into that, stick a 350 in a Vega. Quote Link to comment
r0p0doe
Do a VG swap at least Quote Link to comment

My son did just that swap [under protest] for a customer. The vehicle was delivered. The customer rev'ed the engine, threw in the clutch, and before he cleared the driveway had completely twisted what passed for a body in the Vega! By the way, the customer didn't learn from this. He bought another Vega, repeated the small block installation and warped the hell out of it too. Quote Link to comment

KlassicMotion
I use to want a v8 in my dime. But my 4 cylinder make as much power as a 350 Bull! He didn't say what 350 V8, or what 4cyl. A stock late 70's-90's base model V8 only put out around 170-270 hp. Some tuned and boosted 4cyl's can reach that easy.... Apples to apples, I don't recall any NA 4cyl that can reach the power potential of an NA V8.... 2 Quote Link to comment
DISLEXICDIME
I have a sr in my car. 1 Quote Link to comment
KlassicMotion
^ That's what I figured. And thus, more power than some stock V8's. Plus better power to weight ratio. Quote Link to comment

yellowdatsun
Ya think the OP will be back after this? If he really wants to stick a SBC in a 510, maybe it's best he doesn't come back?? 1 Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Should just do a Ford 460 instead. If you're going to make it suck, might as well make it royally suck, but then you can tow your fifth wheel with it. Quote Link to comment
RTB
If you're really going to fuck it up, turbo diesel? Quote Link to comment
yellowdatsun
If you did an SD22 turbo diesel, I actually wouldn't mind seeing that...... Quote Link to comment
paradime
In my experience, if you have to ask IF it can be done, you aren't the guy who CAN do it. This comes down to the simple indisputable law of diminishing returns. I've seen two street-able V8 510s that could be considered anywhere near a success in so much as they are drivable. Both cars are ground up hand built chassis with a 510 shell tacked on. Neither are competitive in any respect against a well built KA, or SR 510, or as fun to drive. So this begs the question, why Americanize a Japanese sport sedan by stuffing a fat load of iron shit that was designed to push around a 3500 lb. sled into well balanced light & nimble little car? I can think of lots of ways to shoot yourself in the foot, but that one takes the cake. Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
I use to want a v8 in my dime. But my 4 cylinder make as much power as a 350 I agree!!! All my year being into cars I've never ridden in an impressive power 350 that was street legal period. Yeah I've road in quite a few summer time/ basically race engine cars that were pretty good.
