They are going to be at Venice Beach tomorrow evening and I am going to go to that.

To the haters, things have changed since the 510 was around.. Emission and crash standards for example, hence body changes and car design. These are all so concept vehicles. There looks will change several times, before and if, these make it into production. Manufactures do these type of things to get feedback to make those changes. What I have been reading about this car is that it is the Automotive press- not Nissan, comparing it to the 510. Nissans mission in this car is to get millennials interested in automobiles because the younger generations are not interested in cars as we are and it is hurting auto sales across the board. These cars are supposed to be highly modifiable- more so than any car made today such as being able to change out body panels and lights as easy as changing underwear. The Freeflow is supposed to have a 150 HP motor and the Nismo is supposed to have a turbo 200 HP motor but hooked to a CVT transmission which I do find disappointing. Besides, even if the IDX does get associated with the 510 all it will do is make the classic 510 value jump and so why hate it? IMO you should be rejoicing..  I can understand not liking a look or design and that’s your right and I respect that, but to have such visceral hate for something that’s going to make the value of your car jump and you having you do nothing seems kind of silly.

Well.... "DX" is 510 in Roman numerals. I think Nissan just added an Apple style "i"

That said, I've been on board with this car since the Tokyo show pix. I can see some of the Fiat/510 DNA but it also looks like its own unique car.

I hate most of the nissan/infinity styling right now so any change is bound to be good.

I've been kicking around the idea of attending tomorrow as well.  I usually attend it about twice a quarter.

John, text me at 818-970-4335 if you see my car tomorrow.  II am typically 4 to 5 rows back (after the mulletstangs)  usually show up around 6:10 or so when I go.

I just back Venice and I saw the Nismo and Freeflow. I must say they look much better in person. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL! They are slightly smaller than a Civc, just as wide and the roof line is slightly lower. The track on them are pretty wide for a car this small. I know some complained about the huge, flat front end and in person it looks good and not out of place. There are a lot of angles and shapes to it that photographs have not been able to pick up and don't do it justice.

I did talk to the rep while I was there.

1. I asked him the relation of the IDx and the 510. His answer; Nissan says this NOT meant to be a retro 510. This meant to capture the joy and thrill of ALL classic Nissan/ Datsun compact sedans.

2. Are these going into production? Not as of right now. They are still gauging public interest and feed back.

3. I told him I like the headlights and tail lights of the Freeflow but I want the Nismo body. That seems to be the common thing people want.

4. I notice no back seat in the Nismo.... I need a back seat. Most likely they will combine the two (Nismo and Freeflow) features into one car. We already have a two seater in our "Z" car and there is no need for another one. So, I would bet the Nismo will be a four seater.

5. What kind of drive train and I heard even the Nismo will have a CVT.... I don't like CVT's. Any chance for a manual? This car is meant to be a global car. In other words, unlike the Maxima, this car is meant to sell over the world and to be made anywhere in the world. In Europe they prefer manuals and diesels too and the way electric cars are coming on strong there is another possibility. No one knows for sure what they will do for a power train but they are set on rear wheel drive. It's a safe bet you would be able to get a manual.

Here are some pics....

So went this morning with Datrod to the cars coffee show or what ever they call it.Not bad at all if you like seeing some cars that you never seen or just the out of our price range exotics. The new Nissans were there and I must say they did not look that bad at all in person they look a lot better, the race one is very trick but the stock form one has pretty good form and function.I got a few pics that's it but pretty eventful. Also there are good laughs.

I've seen it in person too at the Detroit auto show and it really isn't too bad.

I would definitely consider it if it had the free flow headlights with the nismo body.

Part of me really wants to see this in a wagon because I am a sucker for wagons.... Maybe a two door wagon would be a cool concept... Just my opinion.

It it would look cool with a slightly longer wheel base in a four door wagon.

if they put the freeflow headlights, tail lights, and steering wheel on the nismo offered it with a 6 speed and the 1.6 turbo in the juke i would be a very happy camper and would seriously consider buying one

Cool VW^^^^.....as for the IDX, I think it is pretty cool as a Nissan/Datsun by itself. Dont refer to it as a "510" tho......I hate when a car mfg comes out with a model and calls it something from the past.....ie; Nova, Grand Am, Dart, Charger---never was a 4 dr--cool car, but not a Charger,etc.....
