datsunfreak
Just drop off the car here, I'll put a 510 IRS in it, problem solved. 1 Quote Link to comment
KiloTango1200
Just drop off the car here, I'll put a 510 IRS in it, problem solved. That is a tempting offer. But Mat said if I started hacking such a rare original car, he would punch me in my face. That includes wheel flares. And he is not even a member of Ratsun. But I do have a Coupe race car! 1 Quote Link to comment
KiloTango1200
I managed to get everything out of the outer housing. The damage is very minor and I documented and labeled everything so it can go back together correctly. It is a very petite but strangely robust piece of equipment. 1 Quote Link to comment
KiloTango1200
The center housing is cracked through 180 degrees apart. The other side is missing a small chunk. Quote Link to comment
KiloTango1200
I'm thinking that my buddy that runs a CNC machine can reproduce the center cylinder and I will have a fully functional NISMO H145 Factory LSD with NISMO axle baffles. I would only be missing the rear diff oil cooler. 1 Quote Link to comment

thisismatt
Came across this...funny how it has the same pinion marks on the LSD. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-Datsun-1200-LB110-Nissan-Comp-Nismo-LSD-Carrier-Assembly-Rare-/191598817351?hash=item2c9c2df047 1 Quote Link to comment

thisismatt
Starting to wonder if the factory did that for clearance... Kilo's looks like the pinion was hitting since the corners of the teeth are rounded over. Plus, wouldn't they have to cut it differently for each pinion/crown ratio combination? Seems like if it were factory it would be a continuous relief all the way around... 2 Quote Link to comment

Duncan
Hey Kilo, (not that I would know from experience or anything) but when you put the diff back together, be sure to pack the axle bearings with grease before they are pressed on. They tell me they don't last too many miles and start making noises pretty quickly. A friend of mine rebuilt his entire 1200 rear axle not too many miles ago, and now he has to replace the rear axle bearings because he didn't RTFM. Don't be a dumb ass and do what he did :) 1 Quote Link to comment
KiloTango1200
The axle baffles are out! I observed and prodded the baffles, and decided that they were not frozen in the differential housing. I used my long pry bar and hammer to gently tap out the baffles through the axle shaft housing. The baffles are kinda tweaked and rusty but they are original NISMO NLA parts. The baffle seated on this support bracket in the differential. Quote Link to comment
Burabuda
FYI it's DATSUN Competition Parts not NISMO didn't happen till late 80's 1 Quote Link to comment

KiloTango1200
FYI it's DATSUN Competition Parts not NISMO didn't happen till late 80's Then these would be Datsun Competition parts because it came out of a race car built before the late 80's. Quote Link to comment
KiloTango1200
I didn't realize you have to take the front suspension apart to remove the brake caliper. The bottom mounting bolt is pinned in by the knuckle arm. Should have read the FSM. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
I didn't realize you have to take the front suspension apart to remove the brake caliper. This is why I always swap the struts left to right. B) 1 Quote Link to comment

Burabuda
There were two lsds ainr... One went with a car to Pensylvannia http://www.turbophile.com/feature_cars/kenneth-datsun-1200-coupe.html the other went to ProSolo Tom: http://community.ratsun.net/user/35806-tom1200/ 1 Quote Link to comment
KiloTango1200
The brakes and strut are off the Left side. All the suspension parts are toast. I have a lot of front end parts I acquired years ago, so if the 1200 struts can be rejuvenated, I can get the car back on the road for a lot less cash spent. At this point I just want it drive-able. Finally got the steering knuckle off. Thought I was going to have to use a cutting torch for a while. But it only took penetrating oil, a MAP GAS torch, and a big ass hammer. 1 Quote Link to comment
KiloTango1200
The ball joint didn't put up too much of a fight. The lower control arm let go pretty easily too. The left front suspension is completely apart. Damn, now I have to start spending money again. 1 Quote Link to comment
