A lot of tedious cleaning and a boatload of tape.

kNmTkaL.jpg

Not perfect but better than what I started with.

Now I have to start on the other side.

I did that on my first 510, then swore to never do it again.  😋

Now I just mask off the rings and paint everything else black...

I had a few sets of these rechromed last fall ($$$$ too much), so now I have to paint a couple of them to match the grille pattern for my 73. Thanks for the ideas.

I did this with spray paint (rattle can), next time real little paint brush.

This took all day. If not for my cousin, it would have taken a week.

It is hard to tell but we used the original filler tube for the bend part.

I was always curious how this would come together.

Different angle before we added hose and what not.

Just to see what the H/L assy would look like put together.

Also the OEM hardware holding the trim to the bucket.

Screw: 08630-41620

Spring nut: 01241-01021

The spring nut can be used for the marker lights as well (and probably other places that I have not found yet).

Almost positive those come in a QTY of 10.

No need to buy that stuff OEM

Well, I had it on hand so there is that. Also, it's funny things you can write off as "obsolete" when you run a Nissan parts department...or used to anyway.

FWIW the spring nuts did not work on the side marker light as I had expected.

Not enough spring in the nut/ metal on the fender is too thin. I mean, they work but they don't slide over the hole and stay there. I just had to line everything up and screw it all together.

Not enough spring in the nut...geeze louise I can't believe I typed that.

FWIW, you can also just put them completely behind the fender. I do, saves scratching the paint. 😉

Part 2 of the filler neck.

This is just mocked up as well as the top side. I'm going to let it set a bit and see if the rubber hose forms in a bit. We used the original filler tube to get the proper bend and ended up cutting quite a bit off of it. Then used some reducers and some straight filler hose. Again, if not for my cousin, this would have taken me a week.

Random lower moulding pic while I'm at it.

Not a whole lot getting done lately. Tripped and fell while on vacation and cracked a couple ribs so a bit limited on physical stuff.

At least I didn't break a hip.

This may be a dumb question but... 5 SPD trans out of a 280ZX, the hole where the cover plate and the shaft for the T/O bearing collar..is that supposed to be there?

Never noticed it before but I bet it's a drain for the front seal if it fails. Oil drips out there rather than running forward out that hollow shaft and dripping on the clutch disc. The oil will find it's way to the bottom front of bell housing and drip out another hole there for that purpose.

I have a zx transmission (no surprise there) and it has the small hole though all 71B 4 and 5 speeds should have this.

Still nothing major happening. Waiting on a clutch kit to arrive.

Cleaning the intermediate plate up a little in the meantime.

What’s it look like with the door closed ? And what did you use ?

We used the original filler neck that attached to the 1/4 panel, a metal reducer to straight rubber line, what was left of the filler tube in order to get the proper bend, more straight rubber line, and another reducer at the tank.

I have yet to make this a permanent installation so I can take pics of the individual parts.

I will have to take a pic of the fuel door closed.

There was a flange on the tube that matched the hole in the wheel well as well as a metal mounting plate, so I assumed it to be original.

Still need to snap that pic of the fuel door.
