The silver bullet

Recommended Posts

To make this beast affordable, we will not be installing a SR or KA. instead A rebuilt L16 with a A87 peanut head and either SUs or weber. And 4 speed.

Seems nobody has 8 to 10k for a art car,

It will be getting Coilovers, new wheels and some other cool goodies

Let make this hood fit

20121104_151643.jpg

It fits with a little elongating the hinge holes

This hood was nearly tits, with a fucked up latch area that had been smashed in, due to Bambi

We cut 3 sides of the latch area and pulled it back to where it needed to be. Then welded in a strap of sheet metal to help reinforce it.

Bam good to go

Shaved the hood prop

and prepped the crap out of it, seam sealed it

What's the reason for cutting top hats from round to triangle?

They are the ZX top hats. They are too big around. I made mine round though... kinda...

New information/affirmation of information!!!

ZX Top hats vs the 510 Top hats.

Rumor: ZX top hats are skinnier than 510 top hats.

I have heard this from a few people but always in passing. I set out to find out today.

Here are the 2, 510 on the right:

For some quick measurements:

510:

ZX:

That would look like 1/2" difference to me! Well maybe not huge, it is something.

Now you will need to trim the top hat to fit:

I love that you posted this, then 4 posts later you show an SR in the car.

Victory says I change my mind alot

My thoughts were, we have a rebuilt SR S13 NA, sitting in the driveway, and we don't yet have a rebuilt L16.

Then I thought Fuck it I'll just drive it if it doesn't sell. (shit, did i really just use one of my fucks?)

This car is becoming alot more fun then I originally thought it would be. Finishing OTHER PEOPLES PROJECTS is not what I like to do. Especially when a bit more effort and the project could have been finished by them, right Skib, right Rustina.

Are you down with OPP

Its pretty amazing what you can do with these cars, you could put a chop shop to shame. You and Yenpit totaly inspired me on my lastest feild resucesed project.. Except you make it look so easy, I had some rust to deal with and thought the way you cut and weld the dimes, I could handle this one. Yenpit got me going with cardboard templates and then I picked up some 18ga. cut and formed and made my own replacment pcs and bang bang it moving along.

Sounds great, we try to take a shit load of pics, for people to see what actually goes into a paint project.

But then look back and think it still looks easier then it was. That pass door took me 4 hours, things just did not want to work out.

I now look at the project and realize, this car will be a runner soon. If we still have it we will be driving it to Canby.

The Sr runs great and was fun car to drive in the coupe.

Should be picking up a gas tank with in sump fuel pump soon.

Every little step brings you closer to driving your car.

Very nice, James. I hear ya on the paint and bodywork! It's tedious work, but very satisfying when it's done..

I wish I had a paint booth!

Happy Thanksgiving

Got a few more parts for this build,

An insump 300zx fuel pump in a 510 tank, SWEET, picked this up from Jerry Claypol. He's been building these tanks for years.

Also picked up a rack, unsure if we will be using it, but couldn't resist.

Mounted the drivers door, rebuilt the upper hinge.

The rebuild kits on ebay work great, (4 sets in a package) but you have to file the new brass bushing a bit to fit.

Got her mounted and hung, fits great with minimal adjusting.

Found the box containing door SHIT

Tom wanted to help mount the door. I don't think my idea of mounting the door, and his are the same

WOW we are excited about this one

Headliner went in yesterday, the car has been at the upholstery shop for a week or so.

I have never had this shop install a headliner for us, but I think I might have them do another one some day.

He had rolls of unused material under a table. So i took some time to go through them and found a very nice grey cloth.

$375 out the door, custom made headliner with the A, B, and C pillars done.
