datsunfreak
Coilover sleeves on! Mocking up caliper bracket on rotor... Bought two big hunks of aluminum to makes some brackets. Drilled a few holes... And bolted them up to the caliper... Caliper clearance came out spot on... Next week we will drill the holes in the brackets to mount them to the strut housing. Then when that's done, we'll probably trim as much off the brackets as we can. Aluminum is lightweight stuff, but when it's a hunk that's 8" long and 1.25" thick, it gets heavy quick. dimlight65
I might head down today and drill some holes actually. Quote Link to comment
dimlight65
I might head down today and drill some holes actually. Yeah, that didn't happen. 1 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Picked up the new engine today, oics to follow. B) Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
New engine, came from a 2001 Explorer. Comes with the better GT40P heads than the earlier models. Will probably start stripping it down next week... Got the coilovers/springs on... Should have the tops on the struts and have them back in the car next week. Would have had them in today if not for the fact that our newly finished caliper brackets happen to foul the calipers themselves... 2 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Windsor power! B210 loves the 5.0. Lighter and smaller than Nissan and Toyoda V8s. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Well, I spoke too soon... After lunch I went home and Tim went back to the shop... :P Caliper brackets trimmed, brakes on the struts, struts on the car. Way to go Tim! He just sent me a pic of his progress... datsunfreak
Finished caliper adapter bracket... Center was cut out to shave some weight and won't make it any weaker. Also you can see the holes are countersunk so that the bolt heads tuck inside the bracket. When viewed from above you can only see the bracket, none of the attaching bolts. And we were able to use shorter bolts this way. 1 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Bracket mounted on the strut... Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Caliper on the bracket... 1 Quote Link to comment
dimlight65
I'm a little bummed, and a lot sore, because those struts are hella HEAVY now... but they are in the car. Need to hook up the brake lines and the suspension is done. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
I'm a little bummed because those struts are hella HEAVY now... I think you'll have enough torque to overcome the extra weight. B) Quote Link to comment
Rhapakatui
You guys work hard for a couple of old guys from the city. Maybe when I grow up I can have the bank roll to do stuff like this. I finally scrounged up enough money to start my project again. Wanna race to see who cranks first? Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Wanna race to see who cranks first? Let's go! :P Fab-wise, there isn't too much more to do. Figure out the drivebelt routing, modify some headers to fit, make the trans tunnel fit the T-5, and that's about it. Mostly just bolting it together at this point. Quote Link to comment
RedBanner
whats the deal with the red threaded peice you added to the lower strut tube?? i did a double ajustable double take. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
whats the deal with the red threaded peice you added to the lower strut tube?? i did a double ajustable double take. Basically the whole strut tube is one long threaded collar now. Rather than weld a flange to the tube to support the black threaded collar, we stacked up two collars on it. I wanted to paint the red collars black, but Tim said no. ^_^ Quote Link to comment
Tristin
Did you ask him to paint the black ones red? Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Did you ask him to paint the black ones red? Didn't think of that... The red collars are from the GC coilovers for my 210. Since the black ones are the same thread, but are 3" longer, I'm going to get a pair of those for my 210 instead of the GC collars. Quote Link to comment
dimlight65
Did you ask him to paint the black ones red? Ooh! Yeah! Can we? Huh, can we? Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
No, but we can paint them both pink? :P Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Got the front brake lines connected, and wheels put back on, then pushed it outside to clear some space. Front brakes done... Got the engine off the pallet and on the engine stand. Took about 30 minutes to strip it down to a long block. Thankfully when we took off the intake it looked brand new inside. No sludge, no crud, just gorgeous. B) And of course Tim couldn't resist test fitting the new intake... And test fitting the new distributor. It's a GM HEI distributor on top, but the bottom half is all Ford. After that, we flipped it over, took off the rear sump pan, removed the stock pickup tube, replaced it with the front sump pan pickup tube from the 289 we were going to use. Thankfully the bottom end looked just as clean as the top end, but we had to stop there since we didn't have a new pan gasket. Next week we'll get a new pan gasket on it and put the front sump pan on. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
That is just wrong. A ford engine belongs in a 510  Quote Link to comment
dimlight65
Next week we'll get a new pan gasket on it and put the front sump pan on. Unless I do something dumb after lunch like go to the Boys of Pep and buy an oil pan gasket... then "clean" and install the pan. Oh wait, I did exactly that! Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Somehow I knew you would... Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Are you guys gonna make more of them brake brackets? Quote Link to comment
