What they said, try to do short beads, don't wanna warp the tube.

A old Welder told me that if you put copper anything behind you're welding you have less chance of warping it, cause the copper acts like a heat sink and absorbs the heat from the weld. haven't welded long enough to use the method though

Confirmed! I use a copper buck almost always when doing sheet metal. Its non ferrous so it wont stick to the welded surfaces either nice smooth back side with full penitration. Also short stitch welds are good for minimizing warpage.burn a sec and wait. The process is called fast freeze.

before welding tack it in 4 spots evenly spaced.otherwise it WILL come out crooked.

^ everything is correct. Just make sure you measure your stock shock/spring assembly carefully and calculate where you need to cut/weld to get the right ride height. If you don't get it just right you could end up either not being able to go low enough or being stuck with your frame resting on the ground.

I measured/remeasured mine for about 30 minutes before I even took the whole thing apart, and now it's perfect. At max low, my rails are about 3/4" off the ground, which is where I want to be for daily purposes. But I can go about 2" higher, so if I have to go to my girlfriend's house out in the country, I can make it.

EDIT: Also, gas isn't absolutely necessary. I had my roommate weld mine up since he's better than I am, and he managed to do it with a flux core welder without burning through. It's actually a lot easier to do than camber plates. Engine bay metal is super thin and soft. Burns through like nobody's business. I wouldn't reccomend doing the plates without gas.

so the official plan for suspension.cut struts Honda coils in front with vw inserts and in the back cut strut with vw inserts. i m starting the cutting today and should have everything welded together by next weekend (sucks not having a welder and having to rely on friends dry.gif)

and then im going to wait for camber plates debating on saving a $100 and getting bolt on ones, or paying the extra $100 on weldable ones?

and wheels will be 15x11 in back and 15 x10 in the fronts.

and im looking for the parts to do a 240z conversion on the front end

OIcs coming soon
