Josh K.
I got a little done today. Made a template and cutout the passenger "axle tunnel". Sorry for the pics. The lighting at the shop is not so good at night. I then welded up the driver side. Now I just need to make the filler piece for the passenger side and weld it up.... I then started planning my brake lines. This looks like a good spot: Tomorrow I'm meeting Luke (jinx3) in Tacoma and swapping a section of the front clip from my parts car for a back window I bought from 510kevin (Luke is saving me the drive to Vancouver). I'm also picking up from another guy a complete front and rear S13 Subframe assembly. I'm only using the struts from the rear for mockup and will probably use most if not all of the front suspension components. When I get the coilovers I'll just swap them out. 1 Quote Link to comment
fortyPSI
I keep having to go back through this topic because its so damn cool loving the stance! I cant tell but is the rear suspension installed and set at that ride height, or is it just a mock up? You are not alone.... I love the jetta/rabbit flares. So, are you using a MK1 jetta flare in the front and a MK1 rabbit flare in the rear? Love your build. I should be posting mine sometime soon. Quote Link to comment
fortyPSI
Josh, whenever you are ready to order the fortune coilovers. Let me know. I can get them cheaper. Quote Link to comment
fisch
Another super clean mod Josh. Makes me wonder how low it can go! Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Josh, whenever you are ready to order the fortune coilovers. Let me know. I can get them cheaper. I will definitely do that! Shoot me a pm with your price if you would! Another super clean mod Josh. Makes me wonder how low it can go! Thank you sir! It's as low as I want to go. Just over 2.250" of Bump and hopefully 1.5" droop (on the rear atleast, haven't even looked at the front...). The S13 struts from Auto-Fortune are 3" travel. That would give me 2" bump, 1" droop and I would need 250-300lbs springs and be three wheeling on the track..... I'm waiting for a reply from BC Racing on the specifics of their struts... Monday I pick up a complete S13 front sub frame. My plan is to cut the crossmember and narrow it to get the track width I want without changing any suspension geometry. I will then narrow the rack and pinion by the same amount. I also plan to kick the strut towers back to achieve 3-6Deg Caster (We'll see...). This plan is subject to drastic change I also need to address the single shear rear shock mount as I don't feel it's adequate for running coil overs. I know people do it but I'm building this car so it car withstand driving to the grocery store, cross country or 130mph around the track. If something fails on the track I will lose all my hard work.... Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
I love the jetta/rabbit flares. So, are you using a MK1 jetta flare in the front and a MK1 rabbit flare in the rear? Yes. I'm going to try a Rabbit flare in the front for the hell of it but the Golf Flares are wider and might be the best option. Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Clarification: MK2 Flares Front, MK1 Flares Rear. Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
My plan is get the car all mocked up and drivable then tear it down, finish filling holes and such, then paint and reassemble. I'm thinking I can have the car all mocked up and drivable in time for Canby..... It would be primer with no interior but it would be fun! Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Got my panel stand today! Spent some time prepping the driver side control arm for the new spherical bearing tubes. I couldn't do both because the passenger arm is at work.... Cut the tubes in half and hammered out the bushings: Grind off the welds flush to the tubes: Start hammering out the tubes: All done! Then I finished grinding off all the brackets" Soooo..... The next phase is finish the spherical bearing pieces, weld the exhaust tube, fit and weld on the camber/toe plates, weld on brakeline brackets, make up some hard lines, make a guide plate for the underneath of the control arms so the ebrake cables can slide in and out with the motion of the suspension, make clamps that bolt onto the cross member and secure the brake cables. Then I can re-install the cross member and move on to the rear struts and strut towers... I'm going to cutout the rear bracing behind the rear seat (That I welded in before....) so I have better access to the top strut mounts. This will make fabbing them easier. I also plan on building a cross bracing tube frame for locking the strut towers into the subframe and each other. On another note: icehouse is gonna hook me up Friday with the front suspension off his S13 240sx! 1 Quote Link to comment

Josh K.
Finished a set, gonna check fitment tonight and make the rest in the AM. 1 Quote Link to comment
fortyPSI
In love with the custom work. I was able to do a ton of one of parts 2 years ago, now I have to do them on weekends. Great looking parts Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Thanks guys! Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
All done besides the grease zerks which I'll install tomorrow...... I wasn't too concerned with surface finish on these parts 1 Quote Link to comment
bonvo
nice that would help alot when slotting the crossmember or using brackets to correct the geometry i really like this solution have you considered making more of these to sell? Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
I have considered making more. Design Products Racing makes some that don't require cutting and welding on a new tube for $295 a set. I personally don't like this style (same as the BRE cars used) but I could make both styles..... I'll look into it tomorrow. Quote Link to comment
DISLEXICDIME
those are sweet. I bet a few of us could use those. Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Oh what a cute little zerky zerk  Now on to prepping the other arm. I'm going to move the outboard bearing tube towards the wheel 0.250" to take out some toe from the start. This way I don't have to use the adjusters as much. Next is weld the exhaust tube, weld the bearing tubes and start installing the camber/toe adjusters on the cross member. My goal is to have this all done by the end of the weekend. collision and customs
This is an epic build dude. My 510 will be simillar but I'm doin a wide body mod and installin a complete 240sx floor. Ca'nt wait to see more pics of your progress. Love this build. Hit me up if you have any q's in reguards to process of body work , seam sealer or whatever. Quote Link to comment

Josh K.
Thanks guys! I should have a quote today on doing a production run (20sets) of these... 1 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
So my plan was to move the outer most tube 0.250"back. after a long day I started on the first one, got it tacked on and noticed I moved the inner most one back 0.250" Well that arm is scrap.... moving along...... Pulled out the backup arm and got them all tacked into place. Once everything is done I'll weld them out. Try #2 Got the exhaust tube welded up. Quote Link to comment
