Josh K.
Been super busy with moving and settling into my new job. Haven't even seen my car in a couple weeks... I've still been working with Fortune-Auto this whole time and I have a little sneak peak for you guys :w00t: Everything is being finalized and I'll have full assembly drawings to share next week! More info to come ..... Until then: Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Almost done moving, car still hasn't moved..... Kind of a sad sight :sneaky: I'm in the process of wiring up the new shop with lights and outlets. Hopefully I'll have the car completely moved and starting working on it again in the next month. The coilovers are moving ahead. More info can be found here http://the510realm.c...php?f=1&t=23762 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
I know... not exciting but I got the new shop wired and the first 4 of 12 lights hung. I also tore out all the benches. I'll be building new ones soon. It's a small space but atleast I have "a" space ;) Next weekend will be strictly working on getting my car ready for transport. Probably the following weekend will be moving the car and as much parts as possible... I'm anxious to get back to work! Terry from Fortune-Auto was in Japan last week and should have some news on the progress of the coil-overs :w00t: Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Got some work done finally... Finished the tranny mount. I'll probably box it in later. I also got the car prepped so I can haul it to the new house! v Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
So I'm getting closer to moving the car..... It makes me mad to see the car looking like a car again but not drivable..... Too bad it's all coming back apart.... Oh well, soon enough! What's left at the old shop. Anyone know the difference between these two lights? Preference? I like the all red better... datsuntech
The one with the orange is referred to as a Euro light. The all red is more common. Brock Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
Dude you're going for it! The effort you've putting into this car is insane! I know what you mean about space. I finally got my "own" space :) Quote Link to comment

The effort you've putting into this car is insane! And it's still just a beat up x-racer no matter what I do.... It's practice for the next one  Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Nothing exciting but pictures are pictures.... Next weekend the car should be in it's new home  I decided instead of wiring the shop with 220v and borrowing my brothers welder all the time it would be cheaper and easier to just buy a 110v welder. I'm gonna pick up one of these http://www.amazon.co...g/dp/B002VECKTM Just been busy working on the shop. Is this enough lights? One more you can't see... Gotta get this stuff out of here by next weekend. Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Car is going on the trailer tonight and will be heading home tomorrow  I juts got word from Fortune-Auto that they'll be sending me the prototype coil-overs in 3-4weeks :ninja: Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Got the car moved. Not a lot of space in the garage once the car is in there, gonna be challenging...... Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Almost ready to start working on the car again.... Got the shop bench made (far back right corner) and some stuff organized. Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Finally have all the parts in the shop. Now it's time to start making some progress. I don't have the welder yet so I have to do what I can. Gonna start removing the old core support tomorrow and prepping the new one. Car took a hit in this corner at one time.... oh well I'll do my best to straighten it back out. I'm planning on taking out this center brace since the current one is pretty trashed. New core support. More to come tomorrow.... Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Haven't gotten to the cores support yet, getting ready to go back out and start hacking. I decided to start saving a crunched up fender from my buddies 510. I'm planning on re-doing the front fenders so I might use this one. It was in pretty rough shape..... No rust though! After a lot of pounding. Pretty close but I need to get to the core support so I'll come back to this later. Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Time for a flood of pics for all you oic whores :w00t: This part sums up how ghettofied this car was.... Got the core support removed. This corner is hammered. Probably gonna replace the whole corner. Hammered the driver side core mounting flange pretty straight. Passenger side is beyond repair... Accident ripples I'm on the fence whether to replace the lower cross brace completely. I can either straighten that section or cause it to get worse by cutting it lose.... This corner is shoved to the driver side. This side is shoved out and the lower rail section is folded under as evident by the cross brace buckling. I can fix this by removing the brace and twisting the rail before welding to the new brace...... You can see the passenger rail is plumb. The Driver rail is tilted outward... Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
This is where I'm at, calling it a night and thinking about it more... Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Somebody had to save this car :crying: It will never be a show car but atleast I've learned a TON along the way... Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
Nice to see you doing work again on the car. Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Thanks Jacob! I'm happy to be back at it! I got an invoice for the coilovers. Hoping to see them around the 3rd week of July :ninja: Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
Maybe you already answered before.......what kind of bit are you using on the spot welds? ...maybe just throw a pic up next time you're taking some :) .....oh yea..... Awesome work!!! Very impressive and very inspiring!! Thanks for all the pics of the work!!! I know just how much time just it takes to do that, so I just wanted to say it's appreciated!!! Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Thanks Mike! I used the store brand "spot weld drill" but found I can make a better one.... Its a split point drill "stub 135deg" that I custom ground the tip on a grinding wheel. This one has drilled out a lot of welds but is still going  Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
Awesome! That's exactly what I wanted to know and see! I order stub drills with the 135 split point from enco when I can. That slight mod to make it a brad point will keep it from wandering around. Thanks!! Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Not a problem! Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
So I spent some time in the shop tonight... It looks like my new core support has a "drop down" section in the lower cross support. My old one doesn't. This is pushing me towards replacing the whole thing and hoping it doesn't go "TWANG :crying: " when I cut it lose.... I'm at about 60% leaning towards replacing it. Here's the current brace, flat across the top. New one. Quote Link to comment
hobbes_the_cat
Can u tack a brace in there to prevent the "twang" when you cut it loose? I had no idea that there was 2 different shape supports out there. Quote Link to comment
