WAGON JON
Broken cams come from cam towers that are not the correct "base height" when the cam is tightened down. In other words, the cam tower bound the cam in place and the thing broke. To avoid this, all cam towers must be pre tightened with the cam in place and without the rockers to see if the cam spins freely. If the cam feels like it won't spin freely, doesn't have that new bearing feel, then the cam is bound and the tower bases need to be machined to correct height in accordance to which one or ones are doing the binding. If the head was previously warped and then remachined flat, the top of the head where the cam is sitting is not. Just because the bottom/mating surface is flat doesn't mean the top is flat where the valve cover and cam towers sit. Just a couple of things to look for :) Quote Link to comment
nismo dr
and that is why I gave the head/cam/parts all of it to the head shop so I wouldnt have to worry about it.... and see where that got me Quote Link to comment
philcas1987
That sucks. Comp part. Any warranty? Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
on the Realm I seen a guy with a snapped cam. when I do a new head I put cam in and see if it can spin with your hand. its only 10pounds to bolt the towers down. a warped head could cause this or a EXTRA stuck cam tower shim under there. highly unlikely Quote Link to comment

banzai510(hainz)
I really dont think if that dowl is not installed that it would snap a cam. I would install the tower and if the cam spins with the camtower bolts to spec and cam spins oK. Unless there is soem harmonics that I dont know about but I think the main beaing on cam will keep the cam tower straight Quote Link to comment
