  1. Dan Garrison in Ptown is the Mikuni man. Once he does his magic, same thing. Set it and forget it. I just picked up a 411 with so much extra bling it would make your head spin. Custom SS exhaust manifold, 44mm Mikuni's NOS, Solex air filter NOS and a super unobtainium Nissmo R16 intake. I will be posting up some pics of the build in that section soon as the temp climbs out of the single digits. And just to keep this thread on track, here is a little CL time sink for Hooligan to investigate. http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/pts/4240152937.html
  2. Make sure you go over to 311s.org and read the techwiki article by Keith, the SU guru. The dogbone needs to be unhooked to really do it correctly too. Also Unisynch's suck, not precise enough. Get a synchrometer off of ebay. The air free flows through them and doesn't choke down the motor while you doing the adjusting.
  3. I saw that 521 when I was there last Feb. Never could catch up to him in the traffic though. Was going to throw him a Ratsun card and sticker. Be back there for some work in January so see you then.
  4. OK, let's look at this from a different perspective. What is the purpose of getting away from the 32/36? You want performance and reliability, go to the next size up on the Weber, 38/38 I think. You want cool factor, any of the dual carb set ups will achieve that. You want simple and reliable, SU's all the way. Get a set from Ztherapy and be done with it. Yes I read your post. Coming from the Roadster side of things, I can tell you for a fact that the ZT carbs are worth every penny. Between that and a matchbox dizzy it solves 95% of the drama. There are a ton of roadster guys up in your area that would more than likely help you get your set up sorted out. I went down the DCOE road at one point and gave up on them. Hard to get real dialed in. Mikuni's seem to work better once they are set up correctly but are on the upper end of the dollar scale. There is a guy in Portland that is the guru for those but it's hard to get on his build list. His carbs work perfect when they are finished though. Lots of choices but it all comes down to how much fiddling around you want to do.
  5. FYI, there is a R16 with 4sp tranny in Philly right now on 311s.org for $150. Jump on this car and then jump on that motor. I have just bought a 411 goon and have all kind of extra sss parts if you want to keep running the SU's
  6. The anti spam-bot answer is Datsun Sports. It is right on the front page.
  7. That is a 1600. The 2000 has a different valve cover. www.311s.org will answer all your questions.
  8. Nice looking car. 69 is the most desired of the high windshield cars. Cool front tear drop side markers and the same round rears as the 510's. They also have the better steering box than the early cars. The price might seem a bit high to the west coast guys but I am guessing that is what the market can get in the east. The R series motor is bombproof. Also way less expensive to rebuild should the need arise. Get it if you like it, in a few more years these cars are most likely going to be unobtainuim in this condition.
  9. Hey Todd. Put me on your schedule. Door panels, set of seats front and rear, and headliner at the minimum. All the original covers are still on but I want to do a color change to the dark red/maroon like gc's car.I should be able to start dropping stuff of at the shop the weekend after Thanksgiving if that works for you. Call you later, Mike aka exit64
  10. Coming to this conversation a little late. Interesting stuff here. FYI, to build out a stroker using a U20 crank will run you between about $2900-$3200 depending on how good your machinst is and what quality of gasket kits and pistons you go with. For mine I had an extra U20 crank laying around so it cost me $150 to get the nose shortened and a new keyway milled into it. Also had to recut the threads for the bolt. My block didn't clean up at 60 over so I sleeved it and had some custom Arias pistons built. I spent quite a bit on a custom cam grind from Elgin, pushing $400 if I recall. I built this motor for my 70 1600 but never got around to installing it. It will now live in my Dad's 67 early car that just came my way and get a 5 speed behind it. If any of you guys swap in a 5 speed to an R16 keep in mind that you need to use the U20 back plate. It is twice as thick as the R16 plate and will mess up the thrust if you miss this detail. You can also double up two R16 plates for true Ratsun style. There is a boat load of information about building a stroker over on www.311s.org. The fast and cheap way to do this is find an H20 motor and swap out the cast iron head for an aluminum R16 head. Shifty has one it his car with Mikuni 44s on it and it is a pulling little beasty, right up until the cast head can't keep up with the carbs. That will be rectified this winter with new head. I am throwing this out there so that you can get a handle on the "real" cost of doing this. Not cheap to do it right but the gain is worth it in my opinion. My 2000 with the U20 pulls great but the reality is at some point it will need a timing chain set for the tune of about $1200 for just the parts. Carry on.
  11. What year hood? The 67.5 and later have a different cross brace to clear the dual master.
  12. Sounds like a coil going south. Run it at night in a dark area with the hood up and look for arching from the secondary to primary wires. You might see some arching that you can't see in daylight. Hard to diagnose.
  13. FYI that stuff works way better if you only brush it on in one direction, not back and forth. Don't ask me why, I'm no chemist. True story though.
  14. The fly in at Waaam is this weekend. A great time if you like vintage planes and cars. Saturday is when the best viewing is with the most planes and various car clubs showing up all day long. It is worth the drive to Hood River if you have the time. www.waaamuseum.org Hope to see some of you there. Mike aka exit64
  15. Yet one more reason not to drink from an unmarked bottle.
  16. 1620658113359422 Expires the end of September. Order up!
  17. About to dive head first into the '71 Coupe that has been taking up space in the driveway for the past two years.. as soon as I figure out the brake lights on the latest Roadster project. So close and yet so far.
  18. You could come across at Morton, over Baby Shoe Pass and into Troutlake,WA. Drop down into White Salmon and then down I 84 to 97. There is a bit of gravel on Baby Shoe but it isn't bad. Scenic as it gets along the west side of Mt. Adams.
  19. Thanks Mike, you win a prize off the parts table next year at Canby.
  20. I had the cash and it is now mine.
  21. Roadster antennas lock in the down position and this key makes it pop back out so that you can pull it to full extension. Just one more reason to own a Roadster.
  22. My Amanda uses Square on the iPad when she sells her pottery at shows. Works perfectly and seamlessly. I will most likely bring it to Canby to sell parts this year.
  23. You can use a battery hold down. Just cut it to the needed length and then thread it. Also check the trunk floor for cracks where the bolt goes through and fix it if there s a crack starting to develope.
