  1. Looks great! The only thing to be careful about with ORIGINAL seats when doing a color change, especially the back seat, is cleaning with any wet solution. I've had two rear seat assemblies "come apart at the seams" after wetting them down to clean them. When the old ORIGINAL stitching gets wet, it can simply disintegrate, thus popping the seams! I just had to have an upholstery shop re-stitch the seams, but it was a pain! And definately use a matte black dye/paint, as the gloss black is very glossy, and not necessarily suited to the classic cars!
  2. Wow, great find on this one! The Weber will have the throat size (ie 32/36 or 38/38) stamped somewhere around the side of the lower carb mounting flange (where you see that red paint splattered). You will need this # to buy a rebuild kit. And yes, the choke flaps & shafts appear to have been removed. If I'm not mistaken, that 2nd fuel line was for residual fuel back to the gas tank..........the Weber carb does not have that fuel "exit" nipple, so it can't be hooked back up (don't worry about it!). If you end up detailing your engine compartment, just cut that tube back just under the inner fender well, and cap it there so you can not see it.
  3. My thoughts exactly! Look for a British car specialist in your area (I know there were some a few years ago), and ask to buy a $10 dirt cheap early point style 25D distributor CORE to test fit (1959-1974 MGB Midget Sprite Mini, should be a dime a dozen!). If it fits, you can call Jeff @ Advanced Distributors, tell him what you are doing (great guy, always willing to work with odd applications), and he can set you up with a rebuilt 25D to your specs. Tell him TJ sent ya!!
  4. If I still lived in Michigan, I'd track him down and go light a big huge fire under hari kari, to give updates!! If he just posted again, he must be alive!!
  5. I think it also depends on what year AUTOMATIC 510 you have......68-71 column shift or 72-73 floor shift, cuz the transmissions are completely different. This baffled me last year on my 70 column shift auto car, and this is what I did....... http://community.ratsun.net/topic/45721-510-auto-to-manual-reverse-lights/

    Reindeer Killer

Hey Erik! Looks great, nice clean interior too!!
  7. Looks like you could easily fit a late model Sanden compressor there, without cutting any sheetmetal, cuz they are much more compact in size, and much more efficient than whatever came in that "kit"............

If you can do this, go to K&N's website with those dimensions, hopefully get a K&N part #, reverse cross reference the K&N # to an application, take that application somewhere (local parts store, rockauto.com etc) and buy a cheap paper element. If that works out for you, and you want a high quality filter, go back and buy the expensive K&N, once you are sure that the cheap paper element will fit!
  9. .........way easier to repair, than to replace! That brace is welded in.
  10. There are two 510 rubber shift boots.........round and oval. Here is the round one http://www.ebay.com/itm/DATSUN-BLUEBIRD-510-SSS-SHIFT-BOOT-INNER-NEW-/310318227337?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4840685f89&vxp=mtr#ht_460wt_877 , I've bought from gira777 before., also available from USA sellers, at a l'il higher cost. I don't know if the oval one is available, but do some digging online. If you have a 280ZX 5 speed, then you use this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Shift-Lever-Boot-240Z-280Z-280ZX-1970-1983-Nissan-NEW-/310782028488?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item485c0d6ac8&vxp=mtr#ht_3479wt_877 on the bottom of the shifter, covers the shifter pivot parts. You would still need the larger 510 rubber boot shown above.
  11. Wow, great find! That AC setup is way cool...............no pun intended!!
  12. Keep the Rotary, ditch the front seats, ditch the 4in muffler. Only other cosmetic thing is that it looks like it's missing all of the front grille surround pieces.......eye brows, lower trim & hood trim. Has the guy put a price tag on it, or do you have a trade? Looks like a nice car!
  13. Well, I was capped at $600, and the 720 bid to $750. A GREAT deal for somebody, cuz the auctioneers said it started right up & purred, with a jump. Next one I suppose...............
  14. Another great Colorado Datsun day! Drove an hour north today to look at an original owner, original paint, 126K mile 1982 720 base model 2WD, that I hope to go BACK to buy tomorrow! I need a parts hauler!! From there I drove another 45min west to meet a guy that had already sold (unfortunately for me!!) a pair of 1967 411 Sedans (see thread under 411, hope to see the buyer here on ratsun) that are both great cars, and then to see the 1972 4dr that he just bought (great buy!!). Heading home, and I spot a ratty lowered 620 in a parts store parking lot, doubled back around the block, and met Ryan, who just bought the truck a few weeks ago! Pretty cool "dragged out of a field" 620 with minimal rust, but some pretty heavy battle scars! We talked for 1/2 hr, swapped contact info, and we should see him here on ratsun soon! Stopped at an east coast style NY deli for a killer pastrami sandwich to make my tummy happy, and headed home. What a great day!!
  15. OMG stupid stupid stupid stupid (head banging on desk) !!!! :crying: I missed them by 12hrs (overnight). Super nice older guy, not on the internet or forums. Somebody got a KILLER deal!! The cars will stay in Colorado, hope to hear from the new owner, hope to guide him here (may already be??). The light blue dual carb automatic car has typical heavy Colorado "dry" rust, but it is completely buildable. The dark blue single carb manual car has MINOR Colorado "dry" rust, has never been hit, mostly orig paint. WOW!! I just wanna drink alot of beer, curl up in a ball and sob myself to sleep..........
  16. ..........tail light buckets hard to find ANYWHERE, that aren't "yellowed" or stained!! I agree..........would be a great seller Dave!!
  17. There is an 86 200SX and an 88 200SX SE V6 in one of our local yards. Without going too crazy, does anybody need anything? (seeker, PM sent!). I just sold an 84 200SX Turbo, cuz I lost storage, but the guy has been working on it, and driving it daily, so at least it went to a great home!!
  18. All you have to do is remove the black plastic guage face plate/panel (couple of screws), pull it out towards you a few inches, so you can get to the two turnsignal bulb sockets...................they simply snap into place, so if you are correct that one is misaligned, you will likely find that one popped out. Might be that easy! Take the time to do what was suggested regarding the electrical system, study the wiring schematic, repair what is necessary (without jerry-rigging!! ), and things should fall into place! Patience, it's an old classic car that needs yer TLC!!
  19. ............I agree  .
  20. The seller already had a list of 5 people who wanted to see them, by the time I called him this morning, and he is a first call - first dibs kinda guy. I already had my shoes on, and my car warming up when I called him! :w00t: Sounds like they will get a good home. He is going to pass my contact info to whoever buys them (hopefully regional), so I will send them to ratsun like I always do!!
  21. Wow, I wasn't aware that the tail lamp trim was going to be made!!
  22. Nice, looks like a clean slate to start with! Welcome!!
  23. Nice silver car! How far did he have to go to get it? Build thread??
