  1. Any good sheetmetal fab shop can make an outer rocker panel skin, as the "bends" are very straight forward.............I have had it done before. You will need to cut a 3-4 inch long section out of your car (or a parts car), and bring that piece to them as a cross section, so that they can bend it to match. The basic shape is the same front-to-rear full length, but there are some details at the front & back ends that they can not copy, but any GOOD body shop could fab during the welding process. Make sure you tell them how long to make the panel! When factory OEM panels show up here or on eBay (long discontinued from Nissan), they are expensive! I sold a PAIR a few years ago for $400! I have heard that tycott's panels are pretty nice, so that's a great contact to try! If your B-pillar is damaged, you will need to straighten it, or cut it out of a parts car. The 4 door & Wagon pillar is the same, but the 2 door is different. There is a thread on ratsun about a company in Australia that is CONSIDERING making the rocker panels, but I have not heard that they have actually done it yet. FYI the other NEW aftermarket panels that show up on eBay every once in a while, are NOT contoured properly, so don waste your time or money! Hope that helps!
  2. Keep in mind if your car is really a 1973 model year, that the headlight & wiper switches are different .........the 73 switches should be illuminated, and the 73 heater control head is FLAT.........the 70-72 control head is curved out. The dash top pad, and the gauge/radio/glovebox panels are all the same for 70-73. The 73 should also have rear window defrost, thus a defrost on-off switch to the right of the ashtray. The 73 parts are hard to find, cuz they didn't build alot of 73's. Hope that helps!!
  3. Update - one car has been purchased, and they are also considering a SECOND car! I suggested that they (Nissan) get registered here on Ratsun, and start a "Project" thread, so watch for it!
  4. For removing chrome from PLASTIC (like the 70-73 c-pillar vents), I have heard that heavy duty oven cleaners, like Easy Off (the heavy duty version, not the regular lemony smelling version), or Mr Muscle oven cleaner do the trick. These are apparently very caustic, and smell bad, so wear gloves and use in a ventilated area! Also heard there is an automotive product called Bleche-White that works well. Good luck with the project!
  5. PM's sent! Keep 'em comin', but again, they are looking for a mostly stock 510!
  6. Hey gottagoon, thanks for posting, but they are not looking for a heavy project car. Not that your car isn't a worthy candidate for someone else........
  7. Bump! I figured somebody would want to sell a car!!
  8. I talked to Jonathan (Z-car guy) at Nissan Heritage in Nashville today, and Nissan is looking to buy a mostly ORIGINAL clean 1968-1973 510 2 door, but would also consider a 4 door. an early 1968 or a late 1973 would be of great interest, as they mark the beginning and the end a 1969-1972 is perfectly fine MANUAL TRANS (not an auto) They are NOT looking for a restoration project, and want a running & driving car They would paint it if necessary, so actual paint condition is not a priority Minor body work is OK, but the cleaner the better They are NOT looking for a high-dollar restored/modified car, but instead want a mostly original car They are prepared to have the right car shipped from anywhere in the USA You guys know what the cleaner cars sell for these days, and they are willing to step up for the right car. He & I agreed that posting as a newbie doesn't always get results, so I offered to post this up for him! Post here and I will PM you his contact info, OR PM me directly. There is nothing in this for me, other than trying to help them out!
  9. Just got mine...........WOW!!
  10. No answer from that 240Z listing...........guess they don't want to make any money!
  11. Hey darrel! Yup, but they haven't responded to an email. Let me know if you see anything else!
  12. I've got a customer that is looking for a 240Z body shell in the COLORADO region. Anything from a shell to a complete car considered.
  13. Nice Bus!! There are lots of them here in the Denver area, often in the junkyards, so let me know if you get stuck on a needed part. Last Spring, my buddy bought a Westfalia ('78 I think....??) in KY, so we drove down, picked it up & drove it back to Michigan. He did a l'il work to it, then loaded up his 14 yr old son, a bunch of camping gear, and headed out on a 61hr 3800 mile road trip (no hotels), up thru northern MI, across WI, MN, WY etc etc, on to Yellowstone, Mt Rushmore, then back across the country to MI. They had the time of their lives!
  14. Oh Mike, I always knew that you had great taste in cars.....................!!!!!!!! (actually, I like some of the quirky AMC stuff)
  15. Wow, never noticed how "squared off" those wheelarches were on those......such a Japanese style of that era!! Clean car, very cool. Why don't you consider a cheap ZX 5 speed swap, while you're replacing the engine? Maybe somebody on Ratsun has a manual pedal set in a narly old rusted out parts car out behind their house! Shame that most of these cars were scrapped for the L20B & dogleg parts...................

    My First 510

Welcome to the forum! My last 510 project was that exact same car........light blue 71 4 door!!
  17. If anybody buys that killer lime green 620 listed above (http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/3520667819.html), I have ALL of the small parts to convert it from auto to a MANUAL trans (except the actual trans & flywheel), ie pedal assembly, clutch master, all hoses/tubes, clutch slave etc etc. Anybody know what Datsun called that color? Man, that Oregon deal is the motherload!!
  18. Very cool Jake! Good to see that the L20B cleaned up nice! Have a great holiday!!

    "The Keeper"

Dooooooood!! :frantics: Ouch! I might have a "parts" ZX transmission. If you need the tail case, let me know BOTH of the following things, cuz I don't know if the tail cases are interchangeable, and I'll dig out my "parts" trans and check it......... speedo cable clamp bolt position - at 6 o'clock or 12 o'clock? how many cast mounting ears (not actually used, but they are there, and help identify the series) - only one ear on one side OR an ear on both sides (mirror images of each other)? OR if you know the gear ratio's, let me know, cuz I've got mine marked.
  20. The "DATSUN" emblems are still available from Nissan.
  21. Hey Bart! I've got a buddy that runs a long wheelbase Dodge Sprinter van to & from MI to TX, on a pretty regular basis. I have already emailed him to see if he would consider hauling datsunfreaks brown shell back to Chicago for you, if you are interested. Bottom line, the question is.........would the bare shell fit inside the Sprinter? He is crazy enough to do it, if it would!
  22. For OEM Nissan call Riley @ Lynchburg Nissan in VA, or Chico Nissan in CA, or Courtesy Nissan in TX.........they will all help with the classic stuff!
  23. hobbes, is that where the # of "loose" individual wires comes into play.........Wagon vs Sedan?
  24. Don't think it's an AUTOMATIC thing, just a different production year. Does your box have wires coming out from the bottom with white plastic plugs, OR white plastic plugs on the box? And if plugs on the box, how many additional "loose" wires coming out from the bottom, in between the two plugs?
