  1. I think the only USA-spec low back (no headrest) seat was the 1968 model. The 68's are kinda coveted, cuz they are a first year car, with some 68 only differences.......like the seats. The 4dr & Wagon seats would be the same, and I think the 2dr would "flip forward" for access to the back seat. If you are just gonna re-upholster anyway, why not find a late model seat that he likes, pull the headrests out, and have the upholstry shop just cover up the headrest post holes? I installed a set of 1990-1993 Integra seats, easy to find in the PullnPay yards, good lookin' seat, simple mods to install (no welding), and were quite comfortable. Plus they flip forward and recline!
  2. I bet alot of us did stuff like that.......I know I did!! There was a thread on Ratsun within the last year or two, with stories about the stupid shit we did when we were younger, with cars involved. Maybe search the word "stupid", or maybe somebody else might remember the thread! Ya know, these "track days" go on at most regional road course tracks throughout the country, during the season, but not during a race weekend. You should check your regional track schedules, and go ahead and crash the Corvette or Porsche club events!! I attended them often over the years in Michigan (just moved to Colorado a month ago!), and always had a blast!
  3. Yup, I think the B210's and perhaps others had a different size spline/shaft, so those will sometimes show up in a pile of 510 parts, or as a misrepresented part sold by someone else! All of the 510's had the same spline/shaft.
  4. TO THE TOP, cuz I just got a hell ride in this monster at the track today, and all I can say is OMFG!!!!
  5. OH DEAR GOD BOB3'S MX520 TRUCK IS FAST AS HELL!!!!!! OMG THAT THING IS BAD ASS!!!!!!!!!! POUNDED IT ALL DAY LONG GIVING RIDES, AND NOT A HICCUP THAT I HEARD ABOUT!!!! Guess I'd better grab a beer, some munchies, sit down here at the computer, and spend the evening reading his build thread. Holy crap. If ANYBODY ever has the opportunity to go for a ride ON THE TRACK (street would be fun too!) with Bob, take it..........I'll betcha Bob gets as much of a kick giving rides, as he did building it!!!! Bob, thank you sooooo much for a great day at the track! Perfect weather, cool cars (even Kaya's Simca!!) great people.........couldn't ask for more! Smiled all the way back to Denver. TJ
  6. mmmmmmm food..........and Datsuns!!
  7. Looking great Mike! Love the ZX 6-spokes, and the blacked out window frames..........
  8. Welcome!! I've had a bunch of 510's, but I think I'm gonna look for a clean 620/720, now that I'm in Colorado, cuz there are quite a few around! Need something to haul all my 510 parts around in!!
  9. I'm in, but I've gotta head out by 1pm! Sounds like Alex Davies & his son (out of Boulder/Estes Park) already had other plans, so they can't make it. I also let vintage racer Mark Robinson know, he said he would contact Joe Pizzi and a few other guys, but no commitments at this point.
  10. Just keep in mind that when you go from a 40 to a 45, EVERYTHING may change..........idle, main, air correction, emulsion etc etc, cuz your air flow in general will increase with the 45's. I always loved the Haynes Weber manual, cuz it was very user friendly, and explained that when you change one thing, you should always take into consideration changing other "metering" parts (like mentioned above). I ran a single 45 on my MG back in the day, spent LOTS of time on the "Butt Dyno" (in the seat driving, making notes throughout the rev band, as to the performance), came up with a "cool air" and a "warm air" jet set, ran one set on any given day, and kept the other set in the glovebox if the temperature raised or lowered within certain parameters! Only took 3-4 minutes to change in a parking lot, if the temp of any given day changed that much, typically between morning & afternoon! Can't wait to hear that roar of the Webers again................
  11. Holy crap, I LOVE this forum!! You guys come to the rescue & rock it out!! Time to post a pic using the ORIGINAL Photobucket layout................... Yup, back to the norm of life!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. What the........is that the Cressida???? Love the matte black & gold wheels!!!!
  13. Way cool! No Datsun at this time, but love to see the track, and meet some people!! TJ
  14. I go away for 3 weeks (actually I moved, so no activity!), and Photobucket decides to change their whole freakin' layout. I just got used to the old one!! Anybody else having trouble navigating? I used to simply be able to right click on a pic, "copy", and "paste" the image right in these text boxes. It don't work no mo'!! Any layman's term help would be appreciated!
  15. Nice build! Don't know if you've researched this yet, but I went thru it with my 71 4dr auto-to-manual swap. Here's a quick re-wire for to bypass the auto nuetral safety switch, and how to wire up the reverse lights............. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/45721-510-auto-to-manual-reverse-lights/
  16. Are there exhaust manifold GASKETS for the two different applications?? Buy the gaskets (cheap!!??), and compare the manifold pattern with them.........but if datzenmike speaks, it is correct! Still, the two gaskets together would give you a visual of what mods would need to be made, or if it would work at all!
  17. Keep in mind that those are "UNIVERSAL FIT", and that there is fab'ing work to be done. If you are a confident fabricator, then it is just your additional labor & hardware cost. It would be imperative to get them lined up & drilled out straight, otherwise you would ill affect the castor and camber. I don't remember........do the T3's have serrations in the slide halves, to lock them in place better, once tightened down? I doubt those universal ones do. Just my 2c's!
  18. I am not a boat guy, but this is a great thread! I've heard about these Sundance boats, but have never seen one, even after spending the last 22 yrs in the water table state of Michigan, with water & boats everywhere you look! Keep that bad boy goin'!! BTW, just imagine that throaty carb "growl" of a pair of dual sidedraft Webers or Mikuni's, with a nice air intake box to match the valve cover........mmmmmmmmmm.
  19. Ranman72........I don't think she was D's sister, cuz she was waaaaaaaaay better lookin'!! :P
  20. Last time Bob3 & I tried to meet up in June (when I was only here visiting), CSprgs had the really bad fires, and by the time I showed up at Carraba's, it was dark......not from nightfall, but from the thick smoke that had shifted onto the city. Of course Carraba's was empty, but my buddy & I still thought about having a beer, and then made the wise decision to keep heading out of town. It was scary. Anyway, I'm up for ANY kind of gathering, but you'd have to put up with my dd Subbie! You guys set it up, and I should be able to swing just about anything!! TJ
  21. Waddup D!!?? Yup, a very good Datsun day............
  22. So I'm at a PaynPull/LKQ junkyard, working on pulling an L20B out of a 79 720 KC, and this guy walks up, leans on the fender, and says "Hey, are you pulling the transmission too?" I smile and say "Yeah, I was gonna take it too, cuz it's a 5 speed, and it's 1/2 price weekend, so I really can't lose! Why, did you need it?". He said, "Well, that's kinda why I came today." I said "Aaaa, I don't need it, so sure, you can have it! You want to help pull the whole assembly, then we'll split it apart after it's out?" Deal struck! Turns out he knows another Datsun acquaintance, who I met last July, when I was out here in Denver visiting my brother. While I finished unbolting engine & trans stuff, he pulled some other parts that he wanted, and his sister shows up & pitches in. We then went and acquired both an engine crane & a cart to haul it out (lucky as hell, cuz it was swamped busy!!), yanked it all out, and he offered to haul it back to my place in the back of his daily driven 79 720 KC! We dropped the motor off, his sister said "Anybody hungry??!!", so we went out for some grub, and talked about Datsuns & life in general. She even paid for the whole meal!! What a great day!! On top of that, the whole experience of dismantling an old classic car here in Colorado is unbelievable! Every single nut & bolt came right off........not a single fight!! I spent 22 years in the Michigan snowbelt, where classic cars in ANY junkyard were few & far between, and when they did appear, they were absolute rot buckets!! I love the Colorado dry cars!! I think I'm gonna like it here..............
  23. Yes, check that you have oil in the cavity under the small black cap on top.......fill up to the bottom of the threads (engine oil will work fine). And yes, there were different crank pulleys & pointers between the L16 L18 & L20B, so unfortunately you don't know if yours is correct without verifying/comparing visually. I agree with ggzilla & thatguy. When you altered the timing, do you remember if you advanced or retarded the ignition.......which diection you turned the dizzy? I assume you don't have your timing light with you? Move the dizzy back IN SMALL INCREMENTS, drive it a l'il, move some more if necessary, drive again, etc etc until it "feels" better (sounds like you already did some of this!). As long as you didn't change the carb settings to much, and that you didn't randomly develope a vacuum leak, bad gasket, or anything else, you should be able to get back home without incident. Once home, get your hands on a good user friendly (novice) manual for the dual carb setup, like a Haynes manual.........very user friendly & very informative series of manuals! I simply Googled "Haynes SU carb", and found this............. http://www.amazon.co...s/dp/156392157X Although the Japanese Hitachi's (also called the Hitachi SU's) are NOT the exact same carb as the British SU's, they are very similar in the way they work, so a Haynes manual for the British SU's should help you out immensely. Worst case scenario, find a reputable British repair/resto shop near home, and ask them if they would consider tuning your carbs........that's assuming that they are NOT worn out & would require a rebuild. Watch those video clips over & over, and let that info soak into your brain. Hope that helps!
  24. Great idea, but I'm old school.........no cell phone camera!
