Uber Deaf One
We have a bunch of really old Matsuura horizontals and a Matsuura RA1 vertical. For old ass machines they work pretty well... they're in much better shape than the 2003-2004 VF3 at my last job. 2 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
We just got a quote for a Matsuura HPlus300. 5 pallets and 180 tools :) 1 Quote Link to comment
q-tip
We still have a few machines from WW2 and right after, hell we have a forklift from '58. I don't what to hear any of you guys talk about "old", we still run tracers! 3 Quote Link to comment
Uber Deaf One
Anyone here tried Haas' new control interface thingy? And the new handle? Your thoughts? Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
I hate Haas. :) I want a Mam but we don't have the work for it. 2 Quote Link to comment

Mattndew76
We have very old OKK's and Cleveland Manual stuff here. I am the lone CNC guy they just hired to bring the company into the future, but they bought this 1998 VF4????? It was here 6 months before they brought me on. Im working on the owners to budget for an Okuma 6 AXIS mill turn system as our next machine. They bought a mill when they needed a lathe :geek: Quote Link to comment
q-tip
That is awesome. I wish I could work in your shop for 6 months. No you don't, most of our machines are just plain wore out, and if its not worn out its just a pos. Most of our machines were really nice 20+ years ago. Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Fuck these parts. Glad to see them go....... +/-0.0005" Bores. 0.002" Roundness. Some of the walls are 0.07"...... Piece out! 3 Quote Link to comment

Mattndew76
Those are the type of parts you wish you could just print. 1 Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Couldn't you just order those from Injen? I kid, I kid Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Parts would be easy if one of our 5axis mills had c-axis turning. The next one will :) Quote Link to comment

Josh K.
No. X,Y,Z,C,A. Our table © can only spin 60rpm. A turning capable 5axis can do 2000rpm and orientate the spindle in any direction. Quote Link to comment
q-tip
OK, just replacing b with c. I don't know a whole lot about newer CNC machines, don't get to use any. Quote Link to comment
Mattndew76
I love how I can use waveform roughing on my little mill and it really speeds up production time... So infatuated with this tech. .750 3-FLT End Mill 5500-RPM 50-IPM FR 1.0" ADC .075" RDC Part that usually takes 38 minutes using legacy style cutting is now 22.5 minutes using waveform. Cant say enough about this!! Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
I've heard of waterline cutting, what is waveform? Quote Link to comment
Mattndew76
It's the same as Volumillng tech. It's a style of milling that keeps a consistant axial depth and radial depth so the load meter never spikes. Light fast deep cuts. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fzT-a2sU1Ww Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
Thanks! So this is Edgecam's version of HSM? I just might be able to do some of this with the servos on mine :) Quote Link to comment
Mattndew76
This style of milling was originated for slower output machines, but the tech didn't hurt high speed machinery either. I think EdgeCam pioneered the tech or was the first CAM Software to offer it. I use both HSM and EC. I will say I like EC's version better. It provides way more options of control on the CAM interface. Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
Cool! Thanks for the info! I'll be happy with getting mine running with the slow version :) 1 Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
Do any of you guys have a good resource for a "how to tune up my mill?" I would like to adjust the ways and mack sure everything is adjusted as well as it can be. I should have it all cleaned up and be able to start adjusting things in the next day or two. Here is a pic of her. 4 Quote Link to comment
Mattndew76
I love 2-axis knee mills, but unfortunately I have never done a tune up or service on one. I have indicated for square and table drop though. 2 Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
lol...that's the same vid I was going to reference. :) Since you have the cnc setup on it, here's another.... 1 Quote Link to comment
