You need to cut air holes in the bottom. That's a smudge pot.

They have holes,just put wet stuff in there and it smoked,but it did burn it all.Also has holes around it toward the bottom.Been burning for 30 years.See them black bags,they been sitting there for about a year and had stuff in it that was wet from the rain.In the bags were old albums,that helped it smoke,Vinyl.What I do is after it is all burned up,I pick up the barrel and dump everything on the ground and get it up with my shovel and put it into my wheel Barrel and dump it in the woods.
