I have #1's on my '40 Ford.  I've had quite a few people tell me how much they like them on my car.

I know the modern take on the D-slots are popular, but I like the spokes myself.

As always, my opinions are worth what you pay for them...

I have never seen an older car with the vintage style Torq-Thrusts and thought, "that looks like butt". They always look cool.

Speaking of, the "modern" Torq-Thrusts do kinda look like butt.  😀

It might be all a moot point.  The shit for brains dickheads at Quality Used Transmissions just up and refunded me my money... no explanation, just, "Hurr durr!  Here's your money back. D'hyuk!"  I am beyond pissed off.

Well, obviously the transmission fiasco has not put me off the vehicle.  A solution has been presented to me and I'm going to gopher it.  We've found a Ram 1500 transmission, albeit with a few miles on it, for a decent price.  Toby Honest, it's a much better price than the one I didn't get, so... win/win?

Once again, many thanks to John for: a) all the work he does on the van, and 2) finding me the transmission.  Yes, I probably should have gone to him first.  Shut up.

Should be here Wednesday. Which is WAY TOO LONG. I WANT IT HERE NOOOOOOOOOW.

Pics to come when it arrives. It's from a '98 Ram 1500 with 119k miles, which I don't think is excessive considering how many NV3500 work trucks I've seen with 200k+ on the original unit.

And this truck was in way too good condition (and too low of miles) to be a beaten old work truck. 👍

Maybe its my meds... or lack thereof, but I have not been able to express just how excited I am about this!  Sure, I can show it when I get mad (see the refunded transaction), but for some reason I have been very... understated with my emotional reactions otherwise.  Believe me, I'm skittering around like a drop of water on a hotplate internally!

Trans, flywheel, and shifter showed up today...

Got it wrestled into my car and drove it over to the shop, then Tim removed the shifter...

Got it up on the work bench to grok a few things, and found one bad spot. The '98 trucks used a VSS in the diff, not in the trans, so we may have to do a speedo swap in the near future (convert to GPS speedo). I am trying to find a converter to convert a GPS signal to a VSS signal in hopes we can keep the stock speedo. We shall see...

Also figured out which clutch we needed, ordered that, as well as a new rear seal for the trans, clutch slave, and some other bits and bobs we need for the install.

Hopefully next time we are there, we will begin the tedious removal of the auto so we can start putting the manual in. 😁

Also, looks like the shifter is going to come out of the floor in a good spot, we just need to heat and rebend the shifter so it points slightly forward and towards the driver. With it installed the stock way it pointed backwards, so we tried flipping it around 180. Which got it pointing forward, but it leans to far to the right, so...

I did find a cheapish aftermarket shifter for it that points straight up (made for a Jeep), which we may buy if need be. We shall see...

As John said, we wrestled it onto the bench and I removed the shifter:

We flipped the stick in the tower thingy and it does point forward now... forward towards the passenger side, but forward nonetheless!

We'll put some torch to that and twist/bend it to where we want it.

Terrible photo of where the shifter will come out.  See the little purple dot next to what looks like an arrowhead?  That's where it will come out.

What?  There are no landmarks in the photo giving you any idea where that is?  Well, I did say it was a terrible photo, did I not?

I had to stay at home today to... watch my sister babysit the people cleaning out the attic.  At one point, when I was doing literally nothing productive, I said I needed to go feed the cats at the shop.  After that was done, I had a look at the shifter.  I chucked it up in the vice, popped off (and lost, of course) the little plastic cup from the bottom, and started heating it.  Half an hour of heating with the propane torch and I broke out this:

IMG_20220625_112903099.thumb.jpg.2ca6d10d3d6557f388d82143e4ff4ea6.jpg

Five minutes with the oxy-acetelene and it was cherry-red!  I grabbed the end with a croissant wrench and gave it a tug.

Now it (hopefully) points towards the driver once installed.

(The real part is in focus.)

I left it in the vice to cool down slowly.  And with it being 110° out, that could take until Wednesday!
