True,It'd been interesting to see both platforms operating in space at the same time. Quote Link to comment
Burabuda
the bell x-perimentals only lately did we find out some were not only captured nazi designs, but had former nazi's in charge of the projects on u.s. soil! 1 Quote Link to comment
Mattndew76
Soviet version seemed so much more advanced and had a designated sole role for military. I usually wouldn't say that Soviets made it better about anything but this is always impressive. 1 Quote Link to comment
Jesse C.
Some U.S. engineers and some NASA folks actually admitted that the Russian Shuttle was better in most aspects and would have been a better platform in the long run. 2 Quote Link to comment
RTB
Russians certainly know how to get stuff into space. My grandmother developed materials for their spacesuit and other aircraft. 2 Quote Link to comment

KiloTango1200
Freshly Restored Grumman F7F Tigercats! And they will be based in San Diego County by a local collector!! Notice their numbers? They are assembly line twins! F7F Tigercats! The most beautiful aircraft ever built, IMHO. Sleek, twin radial engine fighter! Please excuse the sexist comments , but they have large breasts, slender waists, and long legs. Airplanes and automobiles belong to the female gender. They are almost always referred to as "She". I didn't start it, but it has been that way all my life. And what could be sexier than a HOT pair of twins? This is Airplane Porn after all. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I would have thought the engines would have turned in opposite directions like the P-38 Quote Link to comment
KiloTango1200
That's a difference between a V engine and a Radial engine. Radials all turn the same direction unless they are Russian. Those turn backwards. The engineering, production and handling of the difference is more than I want to explain. Google critical engine. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
The P-38 was unique in the fact that it did have a clockwise turning engine, and a counter clockwise turning engine. I believe the engines had unique parts to each engine, and not just a camshaft. Right engine pistons. Left engine pistons. A right engine block, a left engine block, A right and left crankshaft, very few parts were interchangeable between the two engines. In other words, a P-38 needed more spare engine parts than the four engine bombers, because a spare engine for a bomber, could be put in almost any position, on either wing. Quote Link to comment

RaptorReed
I've seen both of these on the same base before, while on det to Tyndall AFB several years ago. Got off C-9, saw jet land with parachute, thinking "what kind of aircraft still uses a shoot to land, then I saw it!". Airforce uses them for drones and adversary aircraft. 2 Quote Link to comment
