an elderly friend of mine bought a rough as hell 1993 Dodge Spirit for basic transportation a few months back. the driver's front brake was locking down and he asked me to change out the pads and check the rotor. when I got in there the rotor looked as bad as the one tendril posted. I changed out pads (on both sides) + rotor and caliper on the driver's front.

When we road tested it I told him I thought it was still grabbing. He said, "Oh no, it's just the pads burning in.". ummm, okay. a few days later he let me know the brakes were indeed locking up.

I took everything apart, reassembled the works, bled it all multiple times and it was still locking up. I called a buddy of mine and asked him what the hell I was missing. Without a second's hesitation he said, "Flex line on that caliper is rotten. It's allowing fluid to push in but it's not strong enough to resist the vacuum when pressure is released so the sides are collapsing and locking the caliper down."

sumbitch. worked like a charm. the fucked up part......? the parts house had every part he needed in stock for that POS '93 Dodge Spirit but they don't seem to keep anything but spark plugs and filters on hand for my A10.
