finney
sadly i got the J13 read to pull from the 520 truck today. The beginning of the end for the old girl Its was a hard decision, I'm in mourining but, for the greater good the days were always up the day for the old girl when i found the V520. Most parts will be used for the Van J13 gearbox New Radiator both doors Sills rad support - single headlight conversion done the right way Grill - Single headlight Lower half of both front guards (rest repairs) Steel Dash Steering wheel - big old badass datsun original in great condition One of the front upper control arms fuel tank visor guard mirrors other misc parts Then I plan on turning the rear clip and bed into a bagged trailer to tow behind the wagon - project after i finish the wagon Quote Link to comment
finney
i thought that post was going to spark some hate Quote Link to comment
Rhapakatui
It did. I'm just too far away to scream "NOOOO!!!! GIVE IT TO ME INSTEAD!" Sounds like most of the 520 will live on. At least you're not going to be wasteful with it. 1 Quote Link to comment
collision and customs
I like seeing how the love of Datsun's can make people go BANANA'S! on bad ass mods. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Excellent fab work, really clean. Now I understand you using parts off of your truck. The bed trailer and the single head light grill on your van will be tits. Will the trailer be body dropped to match the van? Quote Link to comment
finney
yeh, won't do anything with the bed till i finish the wagon, but yes I will build a bagged frame and body drop the bed when i build a trailer. 1 Quote Link to comment
finney
Woooo Did some work yesterday, first time in 4 weeks or so. Yesterday I welded the underside of the floor and the filler plates. also welded the floor supports to the filler plates. I hate welding in confined space. I am 6'6 and there is not as high as it looks under there. 100 burning embers later i was happy. Folded up and welded in a couple of boxes to clear the exhaust cut outs in the gear box x member. Just incase engine plans on day change the chassis work is done. My Air compressors (see chassis pics) are located in front of the rear wheels and slightly protrude, as well as a small bit of chassis rail after the body drop and making the rear seat work. Folded up a couple of boxes to make some space. The driver side is welded in. the other needs to be welded in the same. j13 Motor is currently at a friends shop - getting re built. Struggling to find some oversize pistons though. Quote Link to comment
finney
if anyone ever comes across some rubber for the rear windows and the rear windscreen for this bad boy please let me know :) I have a heap of hidden rust repairs behind the sliding window frame, the rubbers that hold the frame in place are in a condition that if i touch them they will without a doubt fall into a million pieces. what a prediciment Quote Link to comment
Greiggy
it might be a real long shot... but try your nissan spare parts department... the amount of genuine stuff they were able to supply for my 620 build was invaluable! Quote Link to comment
finney
got behind the rear seat bent up and fully welded in today. Also the filler panels for the rear tubs. Next up I might re tackle and finish the firewall BOOYAAAA 2 Quote Link to comment
windowless66
Great job! How did you go finding oversized pistons? Quote Link to comment
finney
I believe the guy that is rebuilding the engine has come up with "something" the will work, I am unsure what that is at the moment. I did find some but they were expensive. Quote Link to comment
windowless66
Were the ones you found to suit an mgb? Almost everything else is the same so I thought the pistons might work Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
i forgot to put this thing on watch...very clean progress. up in the air about a body drop now... Quote Link to comment

finney
thanks mate, For one i love coming on here and spotting my thread up top. the engine builder has come up with something. I have no idea at this stage as to what though. I will let everyone know once i find out what he has done to the little old J13 1 Quote Link to comment
Greiggy
its a good feeling knowing people enjoy the craziness of your build hey? for the record.. i dont normally like too many bagged cars ... BUT THIS!!! HOLY FARKBALLS Im Impressed and honoured that its an AUS build!! keep up the great work man !! Quote Link to comment
finney
I have been slowly painting my chassis with POR15, goes on damn nice, but much more time consuming than a spraying. I have not done the front yet as i still need to drop the front horns for the Body drop 3" and also do the mounts for the front shocks. I also finished off all the small bits on the underbody for the body drop, a few little filler panels were needed. All seam sealed and ready to paint the underbody. again POR15 with a brush, will take a while. I then have brake lines and fuel lines to do, Never done brake lines before, not looking forward to them, but sure once dive in they will be easy. 4 Quote Link to comment
