got the throttle cable made, now I need to get a longer cable and tube for the choke. Looking for Lada airfilter box, as the original Nikki one need to much moding to make it work. If I cant find the need one I'll make an open element temp box.

I do believe you will figure something out, good work on the throttle cable.

readjusted the timing also - this time like it was supposed to. I think I can finish today with the thing and go for testdrive. Then to carb specialist for adjustment. Turned the throttle cable grommet on the firewass to direct the cable to the driver side fender. And after that a slight bent to carb.

Got the things done yesterday - simple sandwitch type airclaner solution. And bicycle brake cable moded to choce cable.

It runds and drives, still needs adjustment. But it is way better than before.

found Lada adjustment manual - made in USSR always came with all the manuals as there wheren't any mechanics doing the job, you had to to things yourself. Adjusted the carb a bit, I'll see how it runs now in the evening when I go home from work.

Now to the truck - well the whole trip was 600km and it used up 60L of fuel, so 10L/100km, thats not bad. Befor it was 14L/100km. Now to get the carb adjusted. Only problem was a fueltank leak over half tank full. So 20L to the tank + 40L in two canisters. Nothing broke, so I'm happy. Hope to get the final result soon. We where not in the top 3, but still a lot of fun.

It is more or less the most classic type of rally - Time-Speed-Distance with a roadbook. Also you have to solve a crossword puzzle on the way - the anwsers you can only find in checkpoints where you have to arrive to the minute. Minute to early you get -10 points minute to late -3 points. All you get in the start is distance of one leg of the journey and average speed. No idea what kind of roads there are and so on. It can be hardtop, or gravel, or mud. No one knows. So if you mess up in some places you have to go faster in another place. There are also special times stages. These can be modern rally type fastest wins or auto-X type. This time it was forvard slalom - very tight- reversing to sertain spot and back again strough a slalom. But I mean it was cm of clearance and this truck need a lot of wheeling to turn tightly and fast.

It is not as you but a Rally, but its the cheapest way to have some motoring fun. And the cars do take a beating. Some usualy lose mufflers, brake some suspention parts and so on. I also needed to but back one headlamp connector as the battery vibrated loose and took it of the lamp. That was easy fix.

The roads that these events in here use are realy sideroads that people seldom use. It was gravel most of the time - to bad I didn't have a camera onboard. But it has some cool curvy hardtop roads. I could have had a chance to show you the cool roads we use at 70 - 90km/h to stay on time.

Ahaaa, thank god for streetview

this was one road we used

Most the roads you just sent photos of would either be private roads that went nowhere over here, a forest service road that has locked gates with no access, and everything would have some kind of speed limit, so if you got behind, there would be no chance of catching up.

Almost everything over here is paved, people don't know how to drive on anything else.

in here only 20% of roads are paved. All else are gravel or just plain sand/dirt. So we learn to drive on bad roads and in bad conditions. These roads are more or less ok to drive on @ speed. If you don't over do it above your or cars abilities, then its ok. But catching up sometimes is realy impossible. Max we have ever been late to a checkpoint was 34 minutes. We drove 14km to a wrong place. Then back again to get on a right track. The worst road we have been on was 14km long forrest road that took 1h and 20 minutes to drive. Just sand, mud, logs, treestumps and rocks. More or less off-roaders track.

Here are some pics of where I've been with my R.

You should take part in one of these events over there. They are loads of fun or just organize one yourself to others ratsuners. Do it one time and you are hooked.

Setting one up does need time. You have to drive the corse yourself for 3-4 times, to makes sure, that everything is ok. Get some tricky checkpoints and let them drive. The event doesn't need to be on bad roads. They can be on good ones to, but use roads that most people don't drive every day.

All our roads that look like that(have trees) are now gated in the pacific NW(WA/OR), you can walk them, or ride a bicycle, but some you need a wilderness pass, or they will take your bicycles front wheel from you.

Sounds like a nice place to live, kinda like when I didn't need to lock my front door when I left the house over here in the 1960/70s.

Only drawback, is you hardly have any Datsuns.

But we do have proper roads in here also :D Just these aren't so interesting to drive on

And we do need to lock our doors. At least in the more densly populated areas. We do have our set of problems also, like in every place on this planet.

Here is a Wiki link for the event type - + we have to solve some puzzle on the way and we don't get route information ahead of start.

this time the cost was 25€ for the event fee, 4€ for camping, 85€ in fuel.

These numbers don't mean much to me, but as I see it, you payed more for fuel that what it cost to enter the event,

I just read the rules for this type of racing over here, they have put in rules that expect you to have all this stuff to just enter your car or truck, they say you can basically use a car you drive to work, and then they say you have to have a roll bar, special shocks, special seatbelts, ect, ect.

The actual entry fee is not that much, but all the rules keep the unwanted type away/out.

Your truck doesn't look like, nor did it sound like you put this type of money into it to race these rallies, as I said before, it's all commercial over here, it's not about the fun anymore.
