Aibast
well the Weber doesn't fit. Its just way to big. And the original Nikki just doesn't want to hold the fuel level. Quote Link to comment
Aibast
Now the original Nikki carb is going to a carb specialist who is changeing put the float needle valve and seat for something else. We don't have any rebuild kits for them in here, but he said he will makse something work witch has a rubber end neadle for better sealing. We will see, what comes of it. Quote Link to comment
Aibast
The carb is back from repairshop. They changed out totaly worn and ruined needlevalve. But in more common (in europe) carb needle seat and rubber tip needle. So hope I can test this thing out tonight (literaly in the night - as I have no other time - rally is in 4 days) PS Sorry for wrong typing - my fingers are freezing in here. Quote Link to comment
Aibast
got it running smooth now, the float stays nice and level. Tested the compression on of the engine. it was 11-10-10-10,5, nice and even Quote Link to comment
Aibast
Ran the car, but stillmisfires and so on. So removed the dissy cap and rotor and well the point contact is busted. Even suprised it runs. But thank god its the one thing I can get form parts shop straight with out ordering it. Nice to have a friend in parts business. Quote Link to comment
Aibast
new pics with decals - hope you all like it. Still had misfire issues and the fuelconsumption is way to much. Ran on 3 cilinders. Changed out the spark leads and cleaned up the dissy cap. Changed out the dissy point contact and now things work. I havend adjusted the cap yet, but it already works way better. Also I suspenct someone has but the distributer shaft in a tooth wrong. Asthe dissi is adjusted to its max earlyest position and it works the best there. this is what was on the car. You can see the bad contact surface and the pin holding the arm had way to much play in it. This what went in. 1 Quote Link to comment
Aibast
morning to you all. It 04:15 in here. And ready to drive 120km to the rally start. The trucks is loaded up with all the things that we might need. Late last evening we adjusted the point cap in the distributor from 2mm to 0,3mm. And but the timing @ 10deg early. It was around 10 deg late. But the truck now for the first time I have ever owned it runs smooth. Hope It gets us trough our 580km trip. Now I'm still a bit sleepy and going to get my stuff together. Where did I leave my helmet .... Quote Link to comment
Aibast
Here are other links fof photo galleries. http://album.ee/album/95341/50324549 http://nagi.ee/photos/sille142/sets/254287 http://www.rallifotod.eu/album399/fotod.html We did drive it front start to finish. Not a lot of problems - random silinder constant misfire and lack off power is still there. Or the 1,5L is realy that weak. Who knows. Had about 500kg of extra weight in the bed to keep the rear wheels on the ground. Roads where more or less just ice covered backed snow. So lots of sliding around. Getting her over 80km/h was a lot of work. But the heater worked all the time so it was nice and warm. The lighting worked. Had some close calls. Almost rearended a GAZ24 Volga, and two racers almost rearended us. The Special stages where some what slow, as there where not enough power to get the car up to speed and around corners fast. Not eough for powersliding. So you guys have any suggestions what engine and 5 speed gearbox to use on 620 - would be great if it where stock fitted 2.0L one. Have no idea what to use and what I can get in here. There are no older Nissans in here. Oldest things are some Almeras and 180SX. I did find Nissan Bluebird 2.0L gas and a diesel engine in here. I thinks its CA20 ??? 2 Quote Link to comment
Aibast
Well I got a solution to lack of power - the carb froze up from cold. I didn't have the warm air tubing so the engine was getting cold air all the time. With a warm air pickup tube and some adjustment I got it working a lot better now. Even with -15C it was running fine. Quote Link to comment
Steroid
Excellent ! ! ! It looks like My old red truck from Years ago ! Congratulations ! Quote Link to comment
Aibast
well used the car again as intended - took to scrapyard 600kg of metall. Drove like a champ. Slippery without studed tyres on ice, but still cool to drive. Also did a little transport for money. Quote Link to comment
Aibast
well, it was -20C this morning and BP's mineral oil was just to thick to get the engine running. It did turn over, but slow. Next time I'll use 5W30 semi-synthetic and see how that will work. Quote Link to comment
Aibast
still having problems with carb. The idle isn't stable. It drops out and then runs again. And the milage is realy bad -14L/100km. So thats more than my 200hp Volvo. Readjusted the carb today, so we will see how it does now. And need to change my fuel filter, it's halfeb baked with rust particles  Quote Link to comment
Aibast
Here is the fuelfilter. This is what I took out and the new one what went in. Quote Link to comment
Aibast
did a small transport job. - 600kg of cargo to another town 100km away and back with 400kg of firewood. Drove fine. Quote Link to comment
merlin
Love this thing! great build! Are there no L20b engines over there? or z22s or z22e? both would give you a half liter or more displacement and are essentially bolt in. and you would likely find one with 5 speed transmission. the 180sx might have the CA18de, which would be a good engine. AWSpoofwil
sweet build man!!! Quote Link to comment
Aibast
well I've searched around in here a lot. There are smaller Datsun/Nissan engines in here - there are no L20 engines in Estonia available, there are no gearboxes and so on. So I'm stuck with J15 @ the moment. Even tought of getting Engine+5speed shiped from US. But it just costs way to much. If I need a Volvo, Merc or BMW parts, then there are loads in here. The only thing I can get for now is a RWD Nissan Serena Van engine - gearbox - rear axel, but that costs more then my car and its rebuild together. So no point in that. I'll try a better carb on the J15, I've found Toyota Variable Venturi carb from a properly running engine and goind to try that, If it doesn't work ,then I'll try a webber. The fun is in just looking if the thing works and it cost me 5€ - thats about 7$ B) We had lots of 180SX some years back - but they have been drifted to shit so nothing good left. Aibast
I've found this VAZ 2105 carb I'm going to try on my J15 Its russian made Weber carb more or less. Just need to make an adapter plate. It is as basic as possible - 2 barrel carb with one vacume connection for distributor. 1 Quote Link to comment
its_karl
out of likes... I like this... Where did you find out about this carb? Quote Link to comment
Aibast
you mean the russian made weber?? Well Estonia is in Eastern Europe and was once part of Soviet Union. A lot of know-how still around on Ladas and there engines - that includes carbs. They are simple and easy to work with. And gives reasonable economy. I still haven't got the Toyota VV carb. Its was just so freaky looking carb, that would be fun to try. If it works, then fine, if it doesn't no harm done. this is what the Aisin VV carb looks like 1 Quote Link to comment
Aibast
well the VAZ carb is a bit different bolt patern than the weber. But I can still use it. Ordered an aluminium flange - I'll be drilling and taping the bolt holes myself. Quote Link to comment
Aibast
still running on unadjustable (broken) original carb, but things need to be transported. Thats what the trucks is for :) PS: You can see the in-bed plywood box for things that I dont want to move around in the bed. 1 Quote Link to comment
