My first Datsun Five Two One

Last weekend I was able to finally bring home a 1970 Datsun 521 that I have been trying to buy for several months off an older Datsun enthusiast who lives a couple towns over. It has 31,000 original miles sending its whole life no further than 15 miles from the Nissan dealership it was originally sold from in the rust belt I call home. It was not for sale, rather I happened to catch it out of the corner of my eye while on a motorcyle ride in the spring. After many talks with the previous owner we were able to strike up a deal, his biggest concern was what my intentions were with the truck. I was pleasantly surprised to discover this truck had a slew of spare parts that would be included with the sale. Spare windshield, back glass, transmission, 5 doors, tailgate, front bumpers, lights, clusters, switches, ladder rack, bed cover, wiring, seats, gas tank, chrome towing mirrors, wheels, tires, spindles, drums, the list goes on and on. It took two trips in my 07 GMC Sierra loaded full to get all the spare parts.

I am new to Datsuns, but have always been a fan of early minitrucks . Having previously owned a couple dozen cars/trucks/bikes mostly GM products, however I did have a bagged 94 Nissan Hardbody and a 91 240SX (Hicas, lsd, 5 speed) at one point in time. I have never had the need to find my next project, they are always finding me by chance. A couple months ago I stumbled upon my 68 C10 that was a clean southern truck that caught my attention. I quickly installed an air ride suspension finished off with a set of wide white walls on smoothies w/. baby moons. I am the General Manager at a company called Lowrider Depot (a lowered suspension and air ride suspension manufacturer & wholesale distributor). Ok enough talk, here are some pictures I took while the truck was at the previous owners house.

Thanks guys, I really dig the patina as well. I am going to rock it for a little while along with a slammed static drop. The body will need some attention soon before the surface rust turns to rot. I will be starting a project thread once I start doing work.

Sorry, but those are front bumpers in the bed. I didn't get any spare bumperettes. I have a bunch more pictures to post up.

The other day I decided to clean out the interior of the truck real good, you will understand why I started there after seeing the before shots.

After a few hours of cleaning, the floors are even nicer than I thought they would be. Just a couple spots of surface rust.

I had gotten a couple other stock bench seats that looked really ratty. I grabed the best of the bunch to see if I could get it looking a little nicer.

I was shocked that it was actually red, shows you how dirty it was. The cover is ready to start cracking, but Ill rock it for now.

nice work. I was dying to see that cab cleaned out. be careful with that white heater knob on the heater box. If the valve is stuck you'll break the knob trying to turn it and they aint that easy to find. you got the radio and cig lighter. Is the floor mat beyund cleaning? That floor is in really great shape.
