Boaty
New development... it was 100 degrees today. Car ran like a raped ape. Totally different tone to the exhaust, was just craving to haul ass... betcha when it cools off it'll be back to it's normal self. Time to ditch the 180 thermostat and go up to the 195 maybe? She certainly seems to love this hotter weather... any KA guys care to share some secrets here? Quote Link to comment

Boaty
Well when I was on vacation down in California visiting my niece & friend Cody (68Datsun510), I managed to pick up a glove box light from a Z-car. I made a new mounting plate out of some aluminum stock, cleaned the light assembly up, and installed it in my 510. Voila, 510 glove box light. Been wanting one of these for *years*. Now I just have to find a map light & switch, and also do my under-dash lighting from a 95-98 Chevy Pickup or Tahoe/GMC Yukon. Quote Link to comment

Boaty
You live in Redding. The only thing I remember from Redding was the HOLY JESUS SHIT heat. It was so hot, had to roll the windows up to cool off. The air temp was terrible. 117 at the 76 station I stopped at. Add the blacktop for a hundred miles, etc etc. I couldn't even touch my doors, they burned. Lol. Okay pics, gimme a minute. 1 Quote Link to comment
Boaty
Okay. Here are some pics. I am *way* too lazy to downsize these. So sorry for eating up your interwebs, hehe. Three amigo's. At Cody (68Datsun510)'s house. Waiting game in the 100 degree heat. Because that's cool as shit compared to A/C. Fiddletown Fun-Run. Met up here in Plymouth, CA One in the group broke down (fuel pump went out) so we waited on one of the only places on the side of the road a car could pull off. Got to check out Nathaniel's dime. SR20 with a little customization from his daughter. Very cool! Check out the rocker cover. It was debatable if we were going to shun this car but decided it was just as cool. It's just not a Datsun. ;) ;) Roadside souvenir I found on Fiddletown Road - it fit the swastika wheels. NO it didn't stay. BUT I brought it home for the wall of shame. Lol. Poor feller' broke down. End of the 'group' fun run down in Jackson. Went to a diner, had some lunch and caught up with people - met some new faces, all that fancy smancy stuff. Was an awesome fun run! But Cody and I weren't done yet. This was just the lunch break for us. Here's a couple pano shots. Nathaniel's dime. This isn't where we parked our cars. But we should've. The shade was a very welcome thing that day. Nathaniel's dime again. I'm just gonna call this cars Bugs from now on. A cool factor thing I wish I had video of, was somewhere around Shasta or so heading back to Oregon, where it's three lanes... there was this truck doing about 75 or so in the middle lane. Cody and I were in the left and right hand lanes, and apparently we were drinking out of the same cup that day - we both had the very same idea. We both stomped on it going up the hill, and blew his doors off at about 85mph or so. Went around him on both sides perfectly... something you'd see in a movie. Was awesome, but I was more attentive towards deer than I was the phone, so I didn't get a picture of it. But, it was a pretty damned cool experience. I wonder what was going thru that guy's head when we passed him. I am thinking more or less "the hell were those?" Anyways, enjoy the pictures, everyone. Quote Link to comment
Boaty
Now the second part of Cody & I's fun run. Backtracked back up the mountains to the summit on Highway 88. Here's some piccy's. Cody R Happy, Cody car R run @ 7000 ft. Mine ran better though. :P The view on one of the pull-off near the top. Here's a Pano. Cody's (68Datsun510)'s 4-door. Heading up to the top. Don't remember the name of this lake but it's south of Tahoe a ways. Carson Spur Another Panorama (Carson Spur) On the drive home. Think this was somewhere out of Oroville/Chico. Not sure. Quote Link to comment
Boaty
And this is what I got to see for the last 3 hours of our drive back to Oregon. :) And I think I can live with that. I am going to focus on getting a really good rolling shot soon, as well as an interior rolling shot if I can set up the tripod in the back seat. Gotta keep my photographer in-check. I'm rusty these days. Quote Link to comment

Boaty
That POS stereo is about to meet it's f*cking demise. You see, I lost the remote for it years ago. So I ended up with a remote for another sony, that worked just fine on mine. But lost the ability to rename anything, customize the EQ, etc. There is no way to change any settings without a damned remote. WHICH I just so happened to have LOST again. So now I have this multi colored rainbow shit in my dash that doesn't stop changing colors if the stereo is on, can't change any settings, no LOUD, no nothing. Just volume, bass, treble, fade and balance. So until I find me another remote, or just bite the bullet and replace this 10 year old POS stereo that only works 70% of the time and sounds like wet butthole, I'm gonna have to deal with it. For now it's gonna get turned off me thinks. @Draker - I was listening to Dodge & Fuski on the way back. Dubstep/DnB. And yeah the gauges are awesome. Not even hard on the eyes at night. Virtually no glare to speak of. Even looks factory IMHO. Dodge & Fuski - Filth @Cody - Yup yup! Where are the ones you took? Quote Link to comment
Boaty
Oh, snap. I forgot my update. My new radiator came in since I managed to blow a few holes in the one I had. God damit. Easy $250 out the door because of stupidity! With the poly engine mounts (McKinney), everything in my car shook. Could be because the KA doesn't exaclty run smooth as butter as I'd like - could be because those poly mounts are super stiff. Either way, engine vibration over the last few months caused the pads in my electric fan mounts to disintegrate and fall out, thus leaving the fans to be really loose on the radiator. Well, the fan case actually wore a hole in 3 of the rows and started pissing antifreeze everywhere. Cody was here for that one. Anyways long story short, tried to get it fixed and the guy that was attempting the fix gave up on chasing pinholes. Couldn't get a puddle to stay put and seal off, so it was either crimp 3 rows of the radiator, or replace it entirely. So I opted to just replace it. I don't trust bandaids. Well it showed up today, I had just finished installing my alternator - which had an intermittent charging thing going on that I couldn't trace. Voltage would cut out and it would quit charging, or it would charge at 13v, or it would charge at 12.5v, or it would charge at 13.5 volts.. hell sometimes it'd charge at 14V like it should be. So while the rad was out, I took the alternator down to have a check up. Turns out the regulator was bad, and the rectifier looked like a ball of white fur from oxidation. Aluminum, Y U NO STAY PRETTY?! Anyways, new regulator, cleaned up all the internals, stuffed it back in the case, and voila. The brushes were almost brand new still, bearings were in perfect condition. Didn't cost me much, $30? Can't complain. Got that in, and it's charging at 14.4V just the way I wanted it to. Now some of you already know my addiction to shiny stuff - especially if you saw my L20B back in the day (pics earlier in the thread). So... why in the hell would I deliberately put an aluminum radiator in my car without the Boatreatment? Enjoy. Quote Link to comment
ProjectFeint
Radiator looks... rad (pun intended) :P How did you get it to that shine? Quote Link to comment
Boaty
Buffing wheels on a drill, and a lot of hand sanding for the top (it was really scratched up... and COVERED IN SILVER PAINT! LOL!) Emery + Sisal wheel for the first cut. Emery + Denim wheel for second cut (smoothes out some of the sisal marks) Tripoli (Medium) + Cotton spiral sewn wheel. I didn't put a whole lot of time into it, if you look around the welds you'll see it didn't take the heat haze off the metal. The only part I took some time on was the top, hand sanded 240, 320, 600, 1000, 1500, then Emery + denim wheel and brown tripoli. Quote Link to comment
Boaty
Keep in mind that no amount of mother's mag polish on a microfiber will ever make it shine like this. In fact where it's at right now, if you were to take mother's polish on a microfiber, you would likely make it hazy. 1 Quote Link to comment
