Tristin
Those look nice. I missed it somehow, but what about that set you helped design? Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
I had to walk away for a few reasons. I just want something that works and at the time there was no good options. Troy was working on these at the same time and after some discussion I decided this was the best way moving forward. The price point for the FA coil overs was what I was wanting but sometimes you gotta pay more..... -Josh Quote Link to comment
Tristin
That's understandable. These look great so I'm sure they will do everything you need. What's interesting is it looks like the center pieces are the same between the units. Are those you pictures or Troys? Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Troy's That's the prototype set he just received. Quote Link to comment
Tristin
Oh ok. I was going to say you work fast haha I can't wait to see these installed. Quote Link to comment
SR20DETdatsun510
Subscribed. This is awesome. I'm a Mechanical Engineer and work CAD everyday. I could handle the designs but getting things machined is so expensive. My bros a machinist but getting parts through his job is nearly impossible .. hahaha Looking forward to seeing more of this build! Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Thanks for the props! I got the frontend welded on, took some creative tweaking of the front frame rails to get it right..... Still gotta do some finish work tomorrow and the rest will wait till the motor comes back out, just easier that way. Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Still working on the quarter. Gotta finish some odds and ends... I wasn't gonna use the piece between the trunk and quarter but decided I should since it adds rigidity and also braces the bumper. Gotta finish this section. Decided I'm not gonna run the quarter all the way to the rocker flange. Gonna weld it right to the face of the rocker. This requires removing the egg shaped section of sheet metal to reduce filler. Still gotta finish this... 1 Quote Link to comment
jinx3
Wow Josh, just checking up on your build - you are doing an amazing job! Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Thanks Luke. It's been a long time since I got to work on my car. Been busy building these http://community.ratsun.net/topic/48979-510-sedan-82-83-280zx-rear-disc-adapters-run-2/ I bought a 2000 Impreza RS R160 VLSD. After some research and thought I decided to use the stock Subaru CV's and just modify them. More on that later..... :ninja: Here's the diff: Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
I found you cannot remove the axle from the outboard cv on the Subaru axles. No biggie as I still need the inner stubs. I bought a set of Vanagon cv's and will make and weld on flanges... Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Looks like I lost a few post when the website went crazy. So started with the Subi stubs and 510 axle flanges. I then cut the Subi stub and turned the diameter, then turned the 510 flanges round: And a set of VW Axles: Then designed the new flanges: Then started milling them. I would prefer to do this in the live tooled lathe but this is faster to setup: Just need to finish the outboard flanges tomorrow and weld them up. Then measure and send out the VW axles for shortening and re-spline. Waiting on these to come back from Ano. Forsale in the parts for sale forum..... Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Also ordered my Ermish Stage 2 Coilovers. Hoping to see them in 3 weeksish  Quote Link to comment
Woody620
Wow, a lot of awesome work. Im digging the flares a lot too. And I really want one of those water pump pulleys and the water neck! Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Wow, a lot of awesome work. Im digging the flares a lot too. And I really want one of those water pump pulleys and the water neck! I'm going to price material tomorrow for the Pulley's. The water neck I'll probably design and make out of billet on the CNC. Welding the cast is too unpredictable. Stay tuned! Here's the finished Set. Just need welding. Going price material for these tomorrow also...... Gotta get my website going quick! Josh K.
Started installing the diff and fitting the cv's. Once I can measure for the new axles I can send them out to get shortened :) Poor car.... out she comes again...... Just gotta change the driveshaft flange tomorrow at work. Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Started fitting the adapters and Lokar cables. Here's the routing. Looks sick and avoids the sheetmetal plus routes through the stock ebrake hole.... Couldn't be happier. Now to mount the other side and route and trim the cables and decide whether I want to use the Lokar handle I bought or the stock ebrake handle.... Quote Link to comment
