mklotz70
When I was doing some strut shortening years ago, I found that the factory strut....prior to a replacement cartridge being put in, was a twin tube setup too.......the inner tube could be cut down, as well. An extra step or two but it could still be shortened. I don't remember the details, I just remember that I figured that it could be done......just wasn't worth doing to a worn out stock strut. 1 Quote Link to comment
Fast720
Hi thanks for the info , yes you can cut the inner tube ,but theses have a small return tube up the side and is linked to the valving , waiting for a reply from a buddy about modifying it also , just don't want to destroy a good set of shocks and I want then to function properly . I just missed a short set on Racing junk.com , these shocks are big bones $$$ 1 Quote Link to comment

Fast720
Small update , still lots of welding to do and some gussets and a cross brace , it will be much easier with the box off . just making lots of little parts for the rear suspension , I don't have the new shocks yet , so I made a mock up to help things along it's amazing how long it takes to make what seems like a simple part. Got to try to stay motivated , as frustrating as it can get, sometimes it seems like I am building a truck from scratch ..........I need to get the Suspension finished so I can figure out the fuel cell and filler tube , Half shaft lengths etc. 4 Quote Link to comment
wayno
This is one of them builds that will likely never be finished, you will always think of something else cool to do to it. 2 Quote Link to comment

ol'rusty1980
(fast 720) I'm curious, why all the rear suspension mods? Im still learning about vehicles so its a learning experience for me to learn new things all the time. 2 Quote Link to comment
Fast720
Hi ol'rusty 1980 , well mostly because when I started the project years ago , 17 inch wheels were the coolest thing ,I am on my 3rd set of wheels now , they all had some issue, too wide or too tall, or couldn't find tires the right size that would clear inner fenders . Also I don't want to ruin the box , you know cut holes in it for shocks to stick through,as well as trying to keep the unsprung weight down, there is only so much room under there.I plan on using my truck everyday , and will probably haul dirt bikes , and some 2x4's , plus there is always the cool factor !!!!!! ............................I guess I like to be different. 3 Quote Link to comment
harlow426@mail.com
look at his username Fast720 that should say it all. I remember one car that belonged to a friend of mine an old 'Cuda that had a built Hemi under the hood and it twisted the frame so bad when he first started it, it was classified as a write off non repairable so he pulled the engine and trans and planted it in a '67 Dodge 1/2 ton truck, it blew the doors off anyone who even thought of challenging. My 66' D-100 has a fresh 'leaning tower of power' sitting on the engine stand. A hemi would be bitchin' but when I finally wear out the Slant I am going to go early CUMMINS!! 1 Quote Link to comment

I like runnin' 235-60-15's on factory 60's GM wheels. Biggest/stiffest tire/wheel combo that does not screw up speedo/rub fenders, or cost a bloody fortune. 1 Quote Link to comment
