Cleopatra Jones
Is the button in the control unit with the levers? I have a faceplate for the a/c but didn't see any openings other than for the levers. Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
It may be done like the 720. In an a/c 720, the blower speed switch pulls out of the dash slightly, which turns on the ac. It still pushes left and right for fan speed, but also push/pulls in and out of the dash maybe 1/4 inch to switch the ac on and off. Only difference between the faceplates is a tiny circle marked ac through which a light shines when the lever is pulled outward. So maybe you just need to source a new fan stitch with the ac feature. Cleopatra Jones
Interesting about the blower speed switch. That could be a good possibility. I did grab the smaller lever on the far right. JDOM310 just grabbed the control unit today for me so maybe that will help. But if somebody has one with a/c that would help even more. This is what the faceplate looks like. Slots for the 3 levers. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
If I remember correctly, there's a blue button that lights up when you push it. I don't think it's on the control face. Trying to remember where though... I've owned 3 AC cars, but none currently... Quote Link to comment
Cleopatra Jones
I also posed this question on the ratsun Facebook page and someone said: 210/B310 Factory AC did not have a separate AC switch. To turn on the AC, you move the top lever all the way to the left and a microswitch inside on the lever closes, and kicks on the compressor. This makes some sense since my parts book has the same number for the heater control as the air conditioning control unit. I also just got my hands on an install manual for air conditioning. Now that I know about this microswitch it makes more sense what I'm seeing in the service manual. Maybe there is supposed to be a light some place but maybe just for indication that it switched over? I'd be interested to know if that's the case. Here's the drawing of the microswitch Quote Link to comment
JDOM310
I definitely did not see that part. Thought I missed it Quote Link to comment
afracer
There is a microswitch on the top lever that turns the AC on when you push the top lever fully to the left. Is is on all hvac controls whether or not the car had AC. 1 Quote Link to comment

Cleopatra Jones
Only cause someone pointed it out to me :) I never would've known that was the thing that tells it to put on the a/c. It seems like the car is pretty much a/c ready. Just needed the actual a/c kit. My mechanic was telling me that holes would need to be put into the firewall and I told him from what I see they're already there. I took a look after we pulled the a/c just to see if that would have to be done. Can't wait to get this started. After JCCS he goes into the shop. Quote Link to comment
Cleopatra Jones
Took out the back seat to replace the backing board that was falling apart. Found a dime and a random tiny screwdriver in there. Got 1/8" masonite back there. Looks good inside and out. This was kind of a quickie job since JCCS is next weekend. I'll have to revisit this and put some kind of foam or rubber to cushion it a bit. Doesn't rattle when driving but since my speakers are back there the music makes it rattle a little. 4 Quote Link to comment

Cleopatra Jones
Ok so I was at a 210 today in the boneyard that had a/c. Luckily the stereo cluster was still there. There appears to be an indicator light for the a/c which I'm assuming that's what it's for. Good to know. I can't get a brown cluster that will have this so I'm not worried about it but it answers that question. Two teeny tiny holes This looks like the plug 1 Quote Link to comment
Cleopatra Jones
I'll be taking Stanley to the shop next week to get the a/c installed. Meanwhile, I got the antenna off the fender. Here's the shit hack job the PO did to put the antenna where it didn't belong. The aftermarket antenna I got from ebay. Side note: The screws that come with it are too big. And Stanley's bandaid I'll be having the hole patched and the fender repainted while it's in the shop. I also took my old crusty dash to Just Dashes out in Van Nuys for them to recondition. It'll be a couple of months which gives me plenty of time to rob a bank to pay for it but all reviews say they do a great job so I can't wait to see it. 6 Quote Link to comment
6spd_monte
That's pretty cool what you did with the antenna! My 810 has one mounted in the fender but I'm thinking I'd like to remove it and I didn't know what to do about radio reception, but now I do, thanks! Quote Link to comment

My 810 has one mounted in the fender but I'm thinking I'd like to remove it and I didn't know what to do about radio reception, but now I do, thanks! Doesn't the 810 naturally have the antenna on the pillar or did it depend on the year? I've seen them both ways. I don't know what made the PO put the antenna on the fender. My guess is that it didn't come with a radio in the first place and they didn't realize the plugs on the left pillar were there to receive the antenna. It's a much better look on the pillar. If you put yours there post photos! Quote Link to comment
Cleopatra Jones
Does anyone know with any certainty that the fenders on the square eye 210 are the same size regardless of body style? My parts book is tripping and basically has the same number for them all which we know ain't right. I'm going to see if I can't get another fender but I want to be sure they're the same size between the hatchback, wagon, 2-door and 4-door sedan. I always forget to measure them when I see them at the boneyards. Quote Link to comment

Cleopatra Jones
It's hideous right!? I'm sure Stanley cried when they were sawing into him like that. UGH! Quote Link to comment
Daryl
It's hideous right!? I'm sure Stanley cried when they were sawing into him like that. UGH! Does the driver pillar have the rubber stops covering antenna holes? Quite an awful hack-job. Quote Link to comment
Cleopatra Jones
I thought all sunnys came with pillar antennas? Revision change? Seems odd. What a hack-job. They did. I think the PO didn't realize it was supposed to go there as it still had the plugs in the holes that receive the antenna wire and the screw OR the PO was a dipshit and just stuck it on the fender all half assed. I'm going with the latter. 1 Quote Link to comment
