  1. different seller but this is what i use. g-764 and g-764e are the same. http://cgi.ebay.com/1973-76-Datsun-Chrome-locking-Gas-Cap_W0QQitemZ230087013093QQihZ013QQcategoryZ42611QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
  2. if it's the same as a 521 you can buy a new locking stant g-764 on ebay for under $10 if you wait for it to pop up or i may be able to ask the seller i bought mine from if he has another. i think more than 1 seller has these. at first they seem to not work cause they are so damn tight they wont just push on with your palm. you have to actually push on each side of the cap where the locking tabs are one side at a time to get it on. back in the day 12 years ago on my first 521 i couldn't get a locking cap so i ended up using a 620 or 720 filler tube that i had a adapter reducer welded on. a bunch of crap i didn't even need to go through. i'm almost sure the 510 (dont know what years) and 521 are the same cause mine had the original giant butterfly non locking style that is also on the 510. now those are hard ones to come by.
  3. i've never seen a drive line/shaft that was too poor or weak to be welded.
  4. yes i agree the datsuns have the better look. i go against the grain with liking the 620's the least of the pre 1980 datsuns. majority likes the 620's best but there are hella 521 owners on this site.
  5. finding decent 521 bench seats are not easy. most are ratty beyond eye sore. better to just have one recovered. no the 620 doesn't fit well. i've seen a 521 with a toyota bench but dont know how it rides. i have benches in both my 521's and would rather not have buckets. i sometimes have to tote 3 people around and the buckets are way stiff. as if you dont already feel the road enough. i've even seen astro van seats in a 521. besides i like my 521 to be original as far as planting my ass in it. basically the only decent 521 seats i've seen have been reupholstered. any mini bench will work if you make sure it isn't too wide and make some brackets for it. i wouldn't mind seeing some newer bench models fitted in a 521. what does a bench cost to be redone? $300-600? we need a ratsun upholsterer with ratsun prices. anyone??
  6. i've replaces the rear end in my 521 only once. never had trouble with the 4 speeds. although it did whistle at a certain speed for many years and then the noise just went away. usually when a noise disappears it's a bad sign that it's about to get a lot worse.:eek:for me anyway. usually the biggest hassle for me ends up being the shifter slop. nope never heard of a tranny making that noise.
  7. i'd try a breaker bar or t-bar or if you dont mind trying to break your ratchet put a wrench on the end for leverage. i use craftsman so i dont worry about breaking my tools. of coarse anything cheaper than craftsman is going to break anyway. if using 3/8 try 1/2 setup. i guess a impact will work if ya got one. like you said. i've never used anti seize and never had a stuck plug. the only time i have plug thread issues is when i use my military spark plug sand blaster. you have to clean all the sand out and i mean all the sand before installing a plug. yeah yeah i know why not just buy new plugs. i usually do.
  8. nice block off plate and 14x1.5 plugs. looks like egr man strikes again. he hates it when people remove the smog stuff completely.
  9. this ones been talked about before.http://forum.ratsun.net/showthread.php?t=1335
  10. damn mike. you go boy. you could say you were darting past everybody.
  11. i wish i could ride my bike. my 81 honda cb650c is the longest mechanical project i have going. due to laziness and loss of interest. boo fuqing hoo. i have a chance to get a original first year 1968 yamaha dt1 250 but alas i keep pussy footin around and he lost the title that was his friends and so on. i dont even know how much he wants. i should find out but he's nowhere to be found. i still may get it though. same guy lost my head and block to my honda!! no wonder i lost interest.:(
  12. i used 2 flat tip screw drivers one small and one big to remove and install mine with a friends helpon my 521. go very slow. i tried using the rope method to reinstall but i wasn't doing it right. the rope method works but you have to know what your doing and have a little skill unlike me. you can reuse your old gasket just make sure the condition isn't very poor with cracking and stiffness. maybe use some rubber conditioner like armorall or mcguires after you get it out. basically the back glass gasket is the only glass gasket that will stand the test of time.
  13. damn nice rollpan. as charliebucket said maybe you could make and sell a few of these. if so i would have to stick with the oem 521 lights though. not that i dont like yours, they look awsome. let us know if you decide to make a few and count me in. i assume there is no license plate light? f.b.i. recently caught one of their most wanted by him being pulled over for no license plate light.
  14. hey mike what kind of wire wheel did you use? will any work? brass? stainless? coarse? fine? did you use a buffer/grinder motor or will any drill work? last where does one buy this miracle molassess?
  15. oh my, now thats what i'm talking about. i would love to see this thing put back to it's old original glory. it looks super straight. what is this a 411 wagon or something. i'll have to surf for this one. what do they mean they think its a 67 datsun?? i can see the vin tag in the pic. maybe they cant read. they have a title and cant read that either. that is the sexiest horn ring/button i ever saw. it looks just like the ringless 520/521.
  16. i too inquired about this truck a couple monthes ago. they sent me pics of the engine compartment and i wasn't impressed. are u just lookin for a parts truck or a rebuilder. offer this guy $350. tdaaj has a parts truck on cl right for $100 and if you go get it in yelm you can snag as many spare hoods fenders doors as you want from him for a price. its also listed in the for sale section.
  17. my dad was a ford man which made me a ford man till i got my 65 dart. still my most favorite car is a 70 ford torino gt fastback. i had one and got rid of it like a fool!!!!! didn't know what i had. i'll have another one someday:drool:
  18. the site is down again. does anyone know if it's gone for good or coming back?
  19. damn i have this problem all the time. lynch hit it on the nose. all rides that are brake worthy i push. i hate the idea of towing with all the jerking going on. my dad did that shit when i was young and i thought there had to be a better way. watching cars being pushed around at spanaway speedway gave me the idea. a car broke down they just pushed it off the track. so now i take 2 rimless tire and tie them to the car/truck. waaay softer and if you see a popo u let the guy in front of you coast ahead a little. passed many cops and have pushed 15 miles. i would love to just rent a truck and dolly but uhaul wont accept a cash deposit!!!!!! you have to have a credit card!!!!!!!!!:mad:wtf liability bullshit.
  20. mmm a 521 with a automatic. now thats what i'm talkin about.
  21. the sylvania bulbs at the store dont list the wattage or candle power. wtf!! i have 3 different owners manuals for the 521. i wonder how many there are? i know i'm missing atleast one. blue manual from 4-20-70 doesn't list bulb specs orange manual from 11-25-70 says 158 2 candela for meters, turn signals,oil/ign all cluster green manual from 6-1-71 says the same as above. funny how the earlier blue manual doesnt have a bulb chart. the bulb chart does have errors though. the 1034 dual filiments listed for- 1034 back up/reverse, should be single filiment 1034 brakes 1034 tailights 1034 turn signal rear, should be single filiment 1034 turn signal/parkingl front license plate is listed as bulb 89 6 candela room/dome is listed as 6 watts no bulb number side markers are listed as bulb 67 4 candela no engine compartment listed but i assume its the same as the dome light.
  22. ok a pic would be better i know but here is the sequence. standing in front of the engine. #1 right side 3rd bolt back #2 left side 3rd bolt back #3 right side 2nd bolt back #4 left side 2nd bolt back #5 right side 4th bolt back #6 left side 4th bolt back #7 right side 1st bolt back #8 left side 1st bolt back #9 right side 5th bolt back #10 left side 5th bolt back torque 3 times in stages first stage at 15lbs, 2nd stage at 30lbs, last stage 45lbs
