MaddieCycle
Both of the fender liners are not doing so hot on my truck. Passenger side is completely shredded and the prior owner zip tied them in place. Exposed on the passenger side are two high pressure lines; A/C and power steering, both seem to be floating in this area, without any kind of brace, which is surprising and I assume there used to be something there and it is gone. I can fabricate something but was wondering what is supposed to be there. Also, have not been able to find a source for replacement fender liners. None on e-bay, no trucks in local yards. Any ideas? Thanks! 1 Quote Link to comment
weldingrod
Don't throw them away. They are what we McGyvers call "patterns". Unless you are totally anal about using factory parts, just get some 1/8" neoprene rubber sheet, cut out some new ones, and install. I generally use rivets instead of those pathetic little plastic body fasteners. 3 Quote Link to comment
Madkaw
I think I have 20$ in making new ones. Menards sells sheet rubber. GM plastic rivets are 25 cents a piece and work well 2 Quote Link to comment
CicliDevotion
Any reason not to use a self-tapping sheet metal screw to attach them rather than a plastic rivet? They were originally screwed on with sheet metal screws, yeah? 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You could use then but I think they were just push in plastic rivets. Just don't reach in there with bare hands. 2 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Mike is correct the factory fasteners are plastic push pin rivets. 1 Quote Link to comment
CicliDevotion
Ahh. Gotcha. My truck is missing the liners...but there are a few sheet metal screws where there used to be some attached. Somebody Mickey Moused the hell outta my poor truck at some point. 2 Quote Link to comment
CicliDevotion
Can anyone confirm if the liners on 4wd are the same as 2wd? Also do both sides match each other? I have some patterns from a truck but they look pretty different than the homemade shapes I’ve seen, which appear to have a lot more coverage. 1 Quote Link to comment
CicliDevotion
Bumping this... what size GM body fasteners should I get to attach my liners? Pic, anyone? Are driver and passenger side identical on a 4WD? Same as a 2WD? 1 Quote Link to comment
NC85ST
Nice work. Turned out great. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Noice! Sometimes just taking a crack at things is the best option even if it goes wrong. A failure on something like this isnt catastrophic just annoying. But looks like you nailed it. 1 Quote Link to comment
bottomwatcher
So what did you use for material? I know lift lips offered those as a kit for body lifted trucks but those look good. I was going to do the same thing with pond lining material but never got around to it so any tips would be helpful. 1 Quote Link to comment
CicliDevotion
I used rolled rubber sheeting from Home Depot. I think it’s for under a (carpet) runner and sold by the foot. i had a template that someone sent me for a 2wd truck. I made a couple of mods for more coverage, but the shape is really close to OEM. i opened the holes up a hair and used GM plastic push rivets to hold it in place, as that’s how they were originally installed. We’ll see how they hold up! 1 Quote Link to comment
Madkaw
I just went to Menards where they have rolls of different kinds of rubber 1 Quote Link to comment
