  1. Any reason why I can't use the 2liter 720 carb on the 2.4?

  2. Is that the same 2.4 engine as in the 1984720?
  3. From taillights how far forward?
  4. Sadly, the weight of the spare tire eventually destroys that cross member. Also, as you have found out, when you do finally need a spare you can't access it. I am building a couple of brackets to hold two spare tires in the truck bed in a vertical position behind the wheel wells, take up hardly any room. Just get in there with some kind of cutting implement and cut the chain, retrieve your tire, take all that hokey spare mount shit out of there and put it in the pickup bed for now. Then consider mounting it vertically in the bed against the side; behind the wheel well make it more accessible although if you are going for style mount it in front of the wheel well. Just putting mine behind because have a short box and not enough room ahead.
  5. Vancouver Island. Wondering if there is much interest in 720 parts. Have a potential source of vehicles and am wondering if it is worth my time, effort and cash outlay to buy them and part them out.
  6. Just throwing this out there, wondering how many people on Vancouver Island looking for parts. There is a possibility I may be able to acquire some vehicles for parting out and am wondering if it is worth my time/expense. Vehicles would be mostly 720's.
  7. Don't throw them away. They are what we McGyvers call "patterns". Unless you are totally anal about using factory parts, just get some 1/8" neoprene rubber sheet, cut out some new ones, and install. I generally use rivets instead of those pathetic little plastic body fasteners.

    My Nissan 720

Don't think the mileage in my 84 720 4x4 is too hot, but I do know the carb needs to be replaced, leaking at butterfly shaft ends. But I do get 100kph in fourth at around 3800 rpm and there is still 5th gear.
  9. The builders of this vehicle took a small machine screw, decided to use it to hold the radio in, mounted on the back and bottom of the radio. Then they built the truck around that machine screw. Just to let you know how much fun it is to re/re a radio. Mike, do you know a good source for quality carburetor kits? 1984 720 4x4 xtra cab.

    Transmission swap

Just remember longer transmission will require shorter rear drive shaft components.

    Carburetor Help

Nissan wants about 1500 for a rebuilt carb, Baker's (with my discount) around 700. Anybody getting them anywhere else at non-stratospheric prices? Hate to pay more for a carburettor than the truck cost me.
  12. Casting of some type but I believe in most of the civilized world there is probably some transportation regulation forbidding what you are attempting to do. Are you sure they are not available on some custom webpage?
  13. Beleive it or not, for some reason or other the advertising idjits decided to call it a "moon roof". Probably because in hot climates who the hell wants a sun roof. I just googled "1984 Nissan 720 Moon Roof" and it popped right up.
  14. Failing fusible link? Had a shop fix mine for fuel related problems, ran better but not best. Checked, seepage at carb butterfly swivel points on carb body meant swivel holes ovalled. Will deal with that in the near future. Fuel pump ground bolted to fuel pump guard bracket. Welded stainless bolt to frame and grounded to that, running better.
  15. Had one a few years ago, tried to sell it, no takers. Tried to give it away, same result. Hated to but finally scrapped it.
  16. I assume your mirrors are attached right to the door. I would scrap those, get some brackets (came factory on some Nissans) then you can attach any mirror you want. The 4x4's had a swivel mount so if you hit something the mirror bracket would just fold over on swivels instead of denting the door or ripping the mirror off.
  17. Used jumper and pump not running. Pump runs when hooked up to a battery. All fuses good. New relay installed. Test shows 12 volts at pump connection. Pump has been stripped, filter cleaned, reassembled and bench tested before reinstall. All new fuel lines tank to carb.
  18. Pump runs off battery, new relay, tank full. Many years ago my Father taught me if something won't start/run the first thing you check is the fuel. New lines pump to carb and return. According to the idiot test jumpers at relay plug are side by side, right?
  19. OK, new relay installed, checked pump with 12volt source and it works, checked wiring from relay to pump and getting 12 volts, checked fuses all good, still no joy! Jumped relay plug, no action from pump. Hate to tow it to a shop but looking like only option at this point.
  20. I have an old 84 740 (now a parts truck) and the ventilation or security issues never occurred to me. It just seemed to clutter up the clean lines of that part of the cab.
  21. Wood lift should just be acting as spacer. You should be able to remove it and drop it onto the original frame mounts. Pictures a big help in describing situation.
  22. Never checked the oil................ I am at a loss for words.
  23. You didn't define really cold, but oils are thicker and lose viscosity when they get cold. After you drive it for a while does it go back to normal? If so that means the oil has warmed up and the pump is operating normally. Mike, re: fuel pump relay- had a torrential downpour the day I removed the relay and there was a small leak in the windshield directly above the relay. When I took it out smelled of burned wiring. So, a new relay and also windshield gasket. Might as well put in a new windshield too, old one cracked. Any hints as to glass suppliers? All windshield replacement shops in Nanaimo operate through two suppliers, neither of whom have a 1984windshield.
  24. I use 80/90 GearLube. in any gearbox.
