HOGIE
I found this truck on craigslist and I'm wondering anyone knows it's history. It's from Washington and is titled as a 70'. 1 Quote Link to comment

flatcat19
That is a 69 or a 70. Round corner lights are a give away. 2 Quote Link to comment
Tristin
Round corner lights are a give away. Why would the lights be free? Aren't they trying to sell the truck? 2 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Why would the lights be free? Aren't they trying to sell the truck? Bad troll is bad. Because they're ugly. The squares on the 71 and 72 are way better looking. 5 Quote Link to comment

DanielC
I have several 521 trucks, earliest build date is 09/69. It has reflectors. The next earliest build date is 01/70. It has side marker lights, and all do the rest of my newer 521 trucks. 1 Quote Link to comment

DanielC
My earliest PL-521, serial number 207793 was built 09/69. The next one, serial number 263599 was built 01/70. Your serial number is 238070. I am guessing a build date of October or November of 1969. 2 Quote Link to comment

HOGIE
The PO started converting to electric with a automatic tranny, so this means that it doesnt currently have a fuel tank or fuel lines, and it no longer has a clutch pedal or master cylinder. I plan to go back to the stock L16, which I have, and a five speed, which I have. Also I'm thinking of trying to fab brakets for an bed mounted 620 tank I have. I'll just need to come up with the pedals and it should work out easy enough. Edit: And oh ya, get rid of the LED's. Not a fan. 1 Quote Link to comment

oldskoolvws
Yeah, can see why the LED's were put in there. This is the failure of most electric conversions and the inability to get performance (mileage). They utilize exiting drive train (transmission) which equals greater friction and a loss of range. I've been contemplating electric for a while but I can't find the drive section that I wanted that would go between the rear wheels and be more direct coupled. VW Rabbit conversion were popular because they direct coupled to a very simple transmission (020) with minimal loss and very light weight. Great in concept, difficult in execution. Nice truck, perfect candidate for a new motor. 2 Quote Link to comment
HOGIE
Does anyone know what a motor + tranny like this would go for? It's a 36 volt Raymond forklift motor, model 507-226/100. I've spent all morning trying to look online for another one for sale. There are a few similar motors on eBay for ~$300-400. 1 Quote Link to comment
