char1i3
Hi all, I have just registered. Been a 510 fan for years but based in the UK so have never found one for sale until now. Just bought a 510 coupe, originally from South Africa. Seems solid but there is lots to do to make it good. I haven't had a chance to play around with it, or even register it for use on the road yet. This is not an SSS model and was built in South Africa, not Japan, but they are so rare, and it's probably one of a very small number of 510s in the UK and one of a few coupes in Europe. Draker
Whenever I see coupe in the title I'm always getting ready to be disappointed. But, this time I wasn't. Very cool car! 6 Quote Link to comment

yellowdatsun
OH-MY-GAWD That is one hell of a lot of rust. Someone either has A. a crapload of free time on ther hands, or B. WAAYY more patience than I do. I'm all for rescuing cars and doing rust repair, but jeezus that's just plain crazy. By the time they're done I'd estimate there will only be about 25% of the original body still remaining. Quote Link to comment

Roof and right hand drive stuff is pretty much all that's salvageable from the rusty bluebird....... ........half a floor pan...maybe a piece of a quarter panel.......thing is FUCT... Any progress yet Char1i3?? Quote Link to comment
paradime
Might be a tad rough around the edges, but it'll still make us 510 guys stand at attention. Cherish it man, that's one cool car you've got there. Quote Link to comment
yellowdatsun
Yeh I'd like to follow the progress on this guy. Massive fab projects are interesting. Quote Link to comment

char1ie
Hi all, no progress to speak of. I am stripping and selling an old race car (not a Datsun) and once that is out of the way then will start on the Datsun. I don't know if anyone noticed but the front bumper is not a Datsun bumper. The seats had to go cos they are nasty. The front bonnet edge trim is bent. The engine is probably OK but I wanted something more modern. I don't like the grille. And the interior is missing a door handle. So all I have done in the last couple of months is track down a front bumper, door handles, a different grill, new front seats, new bonnet edge trim. I also found an SR20DE (non turbo) engine, clutch, loom, ECU, five speed manual box, exhaust manifold. So once all the parts are here I'll start stripping the body and looking for rust, then work out what work needs to be done and get started on doing everything. I am a bit slow but it will get done. char1ie
And I found a set of 14" Jilba racing rims to replace the knock off BBS rims. Quote Link to comment
char1ie
Finally pulled my finger out and dragged the Datsun out of storage. It's now in the big garage and obviously the first thing to do was remove the 15X8 BBS wheels that don't fit (unless you use loads of wheel spacers and have them sticking out of the arches like the previous owner did) and try three sets of wheels that do fit.Don't fit:Better fit:And got lots to do to it... char1ie
I'm leaning towards these Lotus alloys as my first choice of wheel at the moment: Charlie Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
No 510 came with fuel injection in any country. The first EFI was the L18 in the 610 in 1973. Quote Link to comment
