EatLag
My apologies but I'm a lazy ass and I'm at work what size are the carby bolts and how much am I going to have to trim the spanner so I have sufficient leverage? Quote Link to comment
EatLag
Hey guys basically my thermostat is stuck open so the temp gauge barely moves and it hasn't affected me much although it's hard to warm up In the mornings but my thereoy is the coolant never stops flowing so it will never have the chance to cool so say If I was about todo 4 hours highway travel would this cause any damage or inhibit its ability? If not do I need bother replacing it? Quote Link to comment
Z-train
You're wearing your motor out,also-your fuel economy is worse than it should be.Fix it. Quote Link to comment
bananahamuck
Not Datsun per say but the last 2 stuck open thermostats i took out were because spring pressure exploded cage away from top of it.. Some of the tiny-er parts i never did find in there. Quote Link to comment
torqued
bit of common sense required here, THermo stuck open? Replace it ...Hmmmm. They are a few bucks, and about 1/2s hour work by the time you bleed it up afterwards 1 Quote Link to comment
EatLag
Righto $18 for a replacement are the thermostats for the z24 off centre a bit? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
This was asked here... http://community.ratsun.net/topic/59299-nissan-z24-sputters-when-accelerating/ If thermostat stuck.... Replace it. Yes off set to the bottom there should be a small jiggle valve to the top to let any bubbles out.. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Just but a good 7$ thermostat Quote Link to comment
torqued
MIght as well give the coolant system a flush while you are at it and put in fresh Antifreeze. Quote Link to comment
EatLag
Thats what im going todo, i installed it but it never had any sort of a "jiggle" valve, is it an essential piece? because if it is il just drill a small whole tomorrow Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Do it. Place in the upper corner, wait you have Z series engine right? Quote Link to comment
EatLag
Yeah a z24 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Do it. Place in the upperor top position Quote Link to comment
EatLag
Thanks for the advice torqued but in the land down under we use antiboil it's hot as fark here Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
We use antiboil coolant here too because engines run close to boiling point. Even though the weather in USA does not exceed 56C, the engine temps run typically 92C. Quote Link to comment
EatLag
Hey guys i have a datsun 720 king cab 4x4, and my mate says he will sell me his 84 single cab 720 4x4 theirs a years difference, are all the diffs, trannies, and 99percent of parts compatible with one another, as in direct bolt up and go or? Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Pop the hoods and check the ID plates for gear ratios 82 (83???) could be 4.38s....whereas the 84 could be 4.11 Measure the trannies...short ...long? Even if the trannies are of a different length, they can still be swapped. Consoles the same length? Long trannie uses the short propeller shaft. Short trannie.................long propeller shaft. Transfer cases could have a different companion flange....which again....can be swapped Most parts interchange...well worth it to have a parts truck Pics...... Quote Link to comment
elmerfudpucker
Body wise, the doors forward should be golden, grab a tarp to cover it and you have the spare. Got one in the yard and a room full of parts myself, nice to have backups! Quote Link to comment
EatLag
I'd post some photos but I haven't seen it myself yet, one vitAl thing I'm looking for is if the fuel sender units are the same Quote Link to comment
Sealik
SC and KC tanks have different senders. Will work...but.....100% accurate 50% of the time....maybe. Quote Link to comment
EatLag
Sorry if you guys think im spamming the forums with pointless shit but... 1983 datsun 720, with a nissan z24 engine.., the dash has a tacho but i cannot locate an wires or plugs anywhere! for it, so i'm thinking of buying this in the next coming days http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/SAAS-Gauge-Black-Face-52mm-Tacho.aspx?pid=288330#Cross what is involved in the process as i don't know anything about engines, or what even a coil is, (i'm not even kidding) but i like to learn through experience so if someone could give me a "how to" specific for this specific engine it would be greatly appreciated i understand stand, battery and ground connection but how do i "tap" into this coil or whatever? datzenmike
If this is a round gauge, the tach just plugs into the dash cluster I believe. The guy to ask for this is http://community.ratsun.net/user/2344-sealik/ It would help if you had a project thread and all these posts could be kept together. Way easier for everyone to find. Charlie69
Tac wires are usually taped up in the loom on trucks that did not ship with a factory tac. It has a 2 wire plug. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
This. I'm looking at a round 720 tach. I would have to go ou in the garage to chech the gauge cluster. I can't remember if the wires are on the harness ior inside the cluster. I'll check later. One way or another the wires will be there somewhere. Quote Link to comment
EatLag
They're not does anyone have a wiring diagram for the stock tachometer? I can just make my own wiring for it if I know what pin does what Quote Link to comment
