datzenmike
Man, oh man the A10 has come a long way. Used to get zero respect by 510 clubs as a 'doner car' suitable for parts like L20B doglegs and steering boxes only to keep them on the road. I love the forward leaning aggressive stance. mhub91
Datzenmike, I'd agree. It's very cool the A10 is getting a lot of attention now. I foresee it becoming 'semi' popular in the near-ish future. Quote Link to comment
bananahamuck
I foresee them as always being grouped with the 2+2 as the plucky little cars that have something to prove in order to have a shot at automobile notoriety,, yet somehow never getting out of the class president, older brothers shadow.. to soon? datzenmike
A10!!!! (not 510) Quote Link to comment
bananahamuck
Looks like all A10s are going to be discontinued in the future. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/budget-cuts-could-ground-unstoppable-warthog-aircraft/ 1 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
I heard the opposite, that they are bringing back the 510. 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
I heard the opposite, that they are bringing back the 510. And you haven't started a tread aboot it yet? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I doubt very much the warthog will go until something as good comes along. That strike fighter sounds like BS to me. Always hearing stuff but it's never around except in the movies. The 'hog' will be around for a long time yet. Quote Link to comment

mhub91
.....'78 510? What's the VIN number? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The Nissan model year usually starts the previous June or July. The A10 was first sold in July '78 which would make it a '79 model year. There were no '78 A10s even though the build date may say '78 on it. Some vehicles were 'half year' models such as the early 620 which was made in or around Feb or March of '72 but is called a '73. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
There is a 1978 Datsun 510. 1978-1981 is the USA model years for the HLA10 510. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
510 with build date of Nov 1977 was the first USA 1978 510. They were produced in Japan even earlier, starting in May 1977. 1 Quote Link to comment
Fat510
Mine was built in August of '78 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
That's interesting. I have only '79 model year shown. Perhaps because it was a part year production? like the 620 and the '86.5 Hardbody being listed as an '87. Quote Link to comment

There are distinctive differences between 78 and 79 A10s. 78s use the remote igniter. I've owned 4 different 78s, all with remote igniter ignitions. The Tach Delete plate is different. The dash facia is different- 79s have bulb burnout indicators (as do the 80-81) but 78s do NOT. The 79+ had a center armrest storage container, 78 did not (though it could be added as the console itself was the same). 78s didn't say "By Nissan" on the fender and trunk badges. They may not have had A10s in Canadia in 78, but they certainly did in the US. I have factory service manuals for all 4 years. 78, 79, 80, 81. 1 Quote Link to comment
