Z chopper
Can you make two gauge holders? I love it. http://www.airkewld.com/Billet-Column-Gauge-Mount-Machine-Finish-p/7025.htm 1 Quote Link to comment

oldskoolvws
Thanks to the one and only Mike (mklotz) for the nice gifts, both the hubs and spacers! As always, pushing the community forward! 3 Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
What's the spacers for? 1 Quote Link to comment
oldskoolvws
Fitting stuff up. The caliper is rubbing so slightly on the back side, one each radius punch. I'm hoping the actual 620 bearing set will push it out ever so much. When I put two spacers on the hub, just enough to clear but not enough. I need to order them damn 620 bearings. The bearings better work after doing this. Also dropping a few things in the ultrasonic tank. BBbbbzzzzzzz! After the ultrasonic cleaning. 2 Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
So they don't clear with the standard hard body calipers. I got the same wheels I think coming from Japan. I guess they won't clear the will woods. 1 Quote Link to comment
oldskoolvws
What's the spacers for? To use the 620 inner bearings. 2 Quote Link to comment

mklotz70
The spacers are designed to keep the hub spacing the same with the 620 bearing as it is with the stock 521 bearing. I don't think you're going to gain any clearance. :( If you take off the stock 521 spindle spacer and put the new spacer behind it, then you'll get it to push out 2mm(approx) more. It won't won't work directly behind the 521 bearing because of the cone on the spacer. A good hardware store should have shim washers that might work. That's what I used to make the coned spacers. You'll just have to watch that it doesn't put your rotor too far out of center. You're lucky it's hitting the bracket and not the caliper. You probably should have gotten the wheel spacer instead of the bearing spacers. I had no clue what you were doing with them. :( 1 Quote Link to comment

Hopefully I can space it and make it work without modifying anything. Worse case, I'll run a rim shim and get back half of what we took off the control arm :( 1 Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
Pat did you put longer wheel studs yet or still stock, i think i still got the part number if you need it for longer wheel studs. 1 Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
I know you don't want to repaint the bracket, but you could grind a bit off of it for clearance. If you clearance the rims, have them rebalanced. 1 Quote Link to comment

mklotz70
I can certainly understand that. If you want to go with wheel spacers, I have 1/8" steel ones on hand. :) They're on my site if you want to see what they look like. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Mike I ended up using the 1/4" spacers on my 520. The 1/8 was fine on one side but not the other, I could grind the caliper but I chose spacers for now. The wheels are stock 620 disk brake wheels. Quote Link to comment
oldskoolvws
I ordered the bearings, seals and rotors today. We'll see which path this takes me down. I still need to ream my kingpins. Time to go watch the Mike video's. I have the same exact reamer kit :) 1 Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
My reamer didn't like to leave a nice finish. Do you have a brake hone? I pay $60/set and have them honed at a local shop that has the machine to do it. The ream will work, but I wasn't too thrilled with it. Finish is bit rough which means the bushings will wear faster. 1 Quote Link to comment

Did you see the option I posted for longer wheel studs? Did your stock studs work with the 1/4" spacers? 1 Quote Link to comment

Charlie69
Yes the stock studs are fine on the steel wheels. I have a set of 96-98 Hardbody alloys that I still have to check out. Quote Link to comment
