Stitebunny
Looking good! Are you running velocity stacks in those filters? I have a set of 40's with open stacks. Runs well but I need some filtration! Quote Link to comment

Ratwagon1600
No velocity stacks ( yet). These filters came with the carbies so will keep them till I find a decent set of what we call ram tubes. Will eventually be running foam filters on them. Nothing! Beats the sound of twin side draughts on an L series motor IMLTHO. Quote Link to comment

Ratwagon1600
looking very good! go the ram tubes. also how goods Melbourne Bitter! Thanks mate!, pretty happy with how the linkages came out. As my beer fridge would attest. Melbourne bitter, the beer for any discerning (Aussie) Datto enthusiast. Sadly, I sense the fridge will be emptied tonite :) Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
thats a nasty lookin header(extractor) you got there. Is there better or shorter ones? plus cermamic coat them. Also on the linkage. I still used the bar set up to the carbs but I went with a cable pull type. As the pivit one on the firewall were ok But i think a cable pull is better. Mine would bind or even come out of the hole mount. Quote Link to comment
Ratwagon1600
Cable pull is the plan for the long term. Might end up wrapping the headers/ extractors eventually. Didn't think they were that ugly :) Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I hear wrapping the headers make them rot out from the inside or the header gets enven hooter and crank them (if cheaply made, thin flanges) What are those carbs????? Dellortos????????? alot of the old school Mada Rotary guys know Dellortos Not much after market here anymore on those. Quote Link to comment

Wanted webers, but these came up at the right price and also were off an almost identical spec motor to mine so that was a bit of a bonus. Sound like webers under full throttle which is good enough for me ! Quote Link to comment
nad015
Been a little while since I've provided an update. Postman delivered these the other day. Given them a clean up. This afternoons job is to clean up all the threads, and give the jets etc a clean in the ultrasonic cleaner. Came off a similar spec motor to the goon, so, hopefully instant get up and go when they are bolted up. how did you clean these, im guessing soda blasting or something like that. Ratwagon1600
how did you clean these, im guessing soda blasting or something like that. Lucky enough to have a bead blaster. It uses glass silica microspheres which, after stuff is degreased and dried, produces the results pictured. Very happy with how stuff comes out of it, Christ, I bloody well bead blast everything these days :) Following on from some of the great rising sun paint jobs I've seen on some of the US cars on Ratsun, decided to start small and do my air cleaner covers. Pretty happy with my first attempt, results below. Masking them up was a PITA though ! Quote Link to comment
Tristin
You should have polished the covers, masked them in rising sun, and then bead blasted them. Quote Link to comment
Ratwagon1600
You should have polished the covers, masked them in rising sun, and then bead blasted them. Thought about it, but, the chrome plating underneath was absolutely fucked! I've got a buffing wheel on one of my grinders. Did the whole clean up and polishing process but there was just too much pitting in the chrome plate. Even after a good session in the bead blaster it still looked like shit. There's a fair bit of what we call " spray bog" or spray can body filler (I think you call body filler bondo?) underneath that paint job. Quote Link to comment
Ratwagon1600
Can't find my brake line flaring kit to make the lines for the big brakes (must be with the stash of number plates)'so in my hungover state, decided to bolt the 240K struts back in so I can get her driveable again. Adjustable control arms have given the goon some serious negative camber ! Took it for a quick spin around the block before and even with a quick home made wheel alignment it turns in beautifully. Quick coat of Matt black paint for the bonnet. Spring has finally arrived here and today's weather is awesome so in addition to getting the goon driveable again, working on the tar in the back. What a Cnut of a job, this shit is piled on thick and everywhere! Twin dellortos have also made a difference :) Quote Link to comment
Duncan
ugh! I hate that tar, and someone added it the back floor in your goon! I don't envy you that job at all.. Quote Link to comment

If I could get my hands on the fuckwit who applied it I would gleefully choke the life out of them. I weighed what I have scraped out so far (by my estimate about 30% of the shit). Came to just a touch over two kilos ! Quote Link to comment
Ratwagon1600
Quick clean up of the wiper motor and a bit of faux carbon fibre stick on for some bling. Starting on the strut brace. Front piece is a main rotor housing brace off a squirrel helicopter. Been carting it round for nearly 17 years and thought I should use it on something. And my wife says I never use anything I collect :) Quote Link to comment
Tristin
Dafuc is a squirrel helicopter? Quote Link to comment
Ratwagon1600
Dafuc is a squirrel helicopter? Training helicopter used by the Australian air force years ago. http://www.airforce.gov.au/raafmuseum/research/aircraft/series3/A22.htm Picked up a couple of these when I was doing a little job for them in a past life. Tristin
Huh, interesting. Good use of things laying around the house. Now you're making room for your second oven. Quote Link to comment
Ratwagon1600
It's something different. The ones i got were being thrown out because of minor scratches on the surface(s). A no no on an aircraft component as you would appreciate. Have to try and fit the oven in this pigsty. I have faith I'll make it fit :) Quote Link to comment
Ratwagon1600
Rear section of brace tacked up. Time to weld it up and start on the mounting brackets for the front part of the brace. Nice day here, I'm off work for another month so, in celebration it's time for. Mmmmmm beer, only in moderation of course ;) Quote Link to comment
Phixius
Good gawd, is that roofing patch in there? Why? Thats gotta suck. Quote Link to comment
Ratwagon1600
If your talking about the bit hanging over the shell, no, it's a piece of foam which I'm sure will come in handy for something, one day, possible, maybe, I don't know :) Quote Link to comment
Phixius
Was talking about the tar. Looks like sealing material ive used before, nasty stuff... Quote Link to comment
