spudly13
the break in the rings just kinda came apart as i pulled each ring off The break in the skirt, i noticed a hairline crack and just barely pushed on it and it broke off Then a pic of the head all cleaned up and some blood Quote Link to comment
spudly13
Well the deal with the Ka fell through since this motor was hitting so many snags, so im back to running the l20b! I ordered new pistons since the one broke, started port matching my intake and exhaust (didnt really take the time to do this on the l16), i got the head all re-assembled just need to adjust the valves, and i picked up a bigger turbo! it kinda sucks cause it needs to be rebuilt, put that kit in the mail, but i figure it was free, and the td04 was much to small for that l16, drove me crazy how easy it boosted... Now that its going back in my car, i must say im pretty excited to see how it does! ported head, fully balanced bottem end, fresh motor this time, lightened fly wheel, bigger turbo, gunna hopefully actually plumb in an intercooler since its all apart anyway, should make some good power, hopefully there will be a noticeable difference from the l16! Tristin
So now its turbo L20 and not turbo L16?- that should be a pretty good bump in power. Quote Link to comment
spudly13
mmhmm! when i ran this l20 before it had pretty good power and lots of torque, so it should be interesting to see what happens! Quote Link to comment
Tristin
Are you still doing the turbo R1 carbs? Quote Link to comment
spudly13
yup, in the end im happy im not getting rid of that, i have quite a bit of time invested in it and it worked really well Quote Link to comment
Tristin
I think most people here will be glad that youre sticking to your car not jumping ship to the 69. In the end you will be much happier in your car since youve built it from start to finish. Quote Link to comment
VintageRice
yep. and that other car was pretty beat wasnt it? Just re-sell it and be done. oh, and get that freekin L20 running and driving by SATURDAY.. Quote Link to comment
jalen
Keep both cars rub Turbo and coils on yours. And bags and ka24e on the 69 and that way of something happens to one you have a backup. 1 Quote Link to comment
spudly13
Sorry vintage... I'm waiting on parts again! Ill be there in the 69 though And jalen that's what I'm thinking, I ran into a couple more weeks of work before school starts back up, so that should help Quote Link to comment

spudly13
alright so my badluck with motors continues, ive been dailying the 69 and well it was great for awhile, probally have 600 miles on it since i got it, annnddd then today it went knock knock knock BOOM, pretty much without any warning, im 99% sure it was something timing chain related, it died as i came to a stop sign, got it to start again, making the worst noises possible moved ten feet enough for me to coast downhill to a parking lot and it died again, and will no longer turn over... i got it towed home and havent bothered looking yet... i leave in the morning for the weekend so ill tackle it next week i guess im trying to prepare mentally for the worst... so my question is... if the chain did snap, break, comeapart, etc, are the tolerances so tight i just bent every single valve in the head? spudly13
on the bright side i think i succesfully rebuilt my first turbo yesterday, i guess we will see when i finally get this motor done! Quote Link to comment

jrock4224
omg .... that sux about the 69 Quote Link to comment
spudly13
I was out of town all weekend, just got back and pulled the valve cover off the 69, everything up there is still in tack, so now im thinking, flywheel/clutch came apart, or broken rod possibly.... Quote Link to comment
jrock4224
clutch fly wheel would be cool......broken rod ... not so cool.... Quote Link to comment
INDY510
. Is that an oil pan skid-plate?? .... Man I hate hitting bumps at speed that hit the crossmember or oil pan ... :frantics: ...... it's really less than an inch higher to avoid ever having that problem again Quote Link to comment
