RTV should only be used at corners of timing cover, and at corners of rear main cap.

any sort of RTV should be used rarely and sparingly on an L motor.

 

generally only use it on water passages on the front cover

watch the hainz video to see all you need to know on the timing chain.

 

 

and make sure to put a proper block in it.... if you drop the tensioner ..

I dont know why you should be... out of all the pan replacements Ive ever done, Ive never had one leak on me. And I dont really use RTV, as Ive always used Toyotas FIPG personally. Never a leaky pan and Ive even bashed a pan pretty good once on some debris in the road. I felt it was hard enough that I should have messed up the seal, but the FIPG kept it together long enough for me to safely get home and fix it.

 

I havent built an engine without it since.

I mean, I really dont think it needs it (3 oil pans without and no leaks...),l and it makes it harder to remove in the future. That is all.

Got the car registered today, and the exhaust done!!!

 

It's too quiet for my liking :(

But at least I can drive it now!!!

Now I get the paint buffed tomorrow and reassembly commences!!!!

GAH I'm so excited!!

 

I have no oics or video cause my phone refuses to take pictures when the battery is under 15% (fucking android phones, I hate them!)
