Still painting engine parts and letting then cure!
I start unhooking the L18 screamer engine!
Going to tear it apart after I get the other one.
Head gasket is leaking.
No water or oil mixture!
It only comes between the head and block.

I drilled the pilot hole for the dip stick on right side of engine.
I started with a 2mm drill bit.

Engine and tranny is out.
And I spilled gear-oil all over the ground.
It's not the first time.
I will be using the cat little I always buy.
I am going to order new switches, for the trans.
I broke the wires on the reverse light switch!

The engine is out! and on the hoist.
The L18 screamer is ugly!
The paint, I used is coming off of everything!
I didn't use the same paint this time.
This time I cleaned the engine better.
And using a better primer!

new hole is the second picture.
Anyone know what size The hole should be!
Looks like 3/8 inch or 9.5mm
Not sure but I have time!
I took the oil pan off. Then drilled it from the top and bottom.

Dipstick hole is drilled out.
I can put the dip stick in!
It is a little loose!
Easy fix!

I have a question about the timing chain sprocket.
When I line the marks on the timing chain with a position on the sprocket!

Which mark do I use?

#1,  #2 or #3?
Rite now it is lined up with #2.

L20s come stock on 2

the others are on 1 but really you can put it where you want.

What I do is do a basic set up and see where the mark is at exact TDC  on crank then ck the marks on the sprocket.

move the number up moves the power band up sooner.  or its for chain wear if the spocket is retarded at Crank Zero.

I put the front cover on loose to get the timing mark then see if ok . when you think you got it then remove it and do the front cover gaskets correct ect...

Should be on #1 so set precisely to TDC and look through the top hole on the cam sprocket. There is a V notch on the back and just above it a horizontal etched mark on the cam thrust plate. The V notch should be below and just slightly to the right of the line above it.

#2 is for L20B engines and the V notch will be positioned even more to the right of the line and this will favor idle and low speed but lack power in the mid range and higher speeds.

If all apart this will be hard to do so assemble and check when all together. The tensioner will need to be blocked from falling out before the cam sprocket can be removed to set on the #1 hole.... or do it now and check to confirm later.
