I went shopping for a few things.
Found all the paint guns, that were given to me by my father-in-law!
I am almost ready to paint the engine bay.
So, I picked up coveralls.
A couple of packs of Hook and loop 6-inch DA disks and some sanding pads.

Yesterday!
I took a 18 inch all-thread rod.
Then I pounded it flat at one end.
Fished it into the disributor hole.
Down to the oil pump.
Then I attached my drill and started spinning on slow speed.
Took 20 seconds before I heard the sucking sound!
Then I saw the oil holes on the camshaft start leaking oil.
Took about a min before there was no more air bubbles.

Next is the oil pump shaft!

After getting the oil pump shaft in.
Is there anything you guys suggest, I do to the engine or the engine bay?

I will replace all the brake lines in the next couple weeks.
Braided lines will be much safer than what I have now.

Hiding wires won't take long!

I also have to replace both motor mounts.
They are cracked, too!
My third oldest daughter is getting married, last week of August.
I think I am going to try and get my car ready for a trip to the beach.
We will see. Edited by Doctoraudio

I doubt it will fuck the engine but for peace of mind you could spin the engine with the starter and the coil wire off to pre lube also. While spinning the pump with a drill does prime the pump and filter the crankshaft is not turning. Oil to the rods depends on the lining up of the cross drilled holes on the mains. It's a small thing and as the system is primed oil instantly fills them when starting.

One day at GM truck plant I replaced a worker on the drive off end of the line. This is where the trucks are started for the first time* and driven to the parking lot. None of them are primed but all are full of assembly lube and the starter effort are only a few hp to spin the internals. I've pulled L series and others apart that sat in wrecking yards for years and years and the bearings are still soaked in oil ready to start.

* One had no oil filter! and one didn't have the fuel line connected to the carburetor!!! Gas everywhere. One wouldn't start and was towed. That was only one shift.

I seen a guy had a new pump installed and when he figured out the pump had not oil in it. Thay was shavings

LUBE/oil or grease dont matter. It needs to fill in the voids so it can create a suction.

Like the episode of RoadKill where they find a Foord motor for the Galaxy from a HighSchool. Had no oil pressure thay just kept running it till it fried thinking the oil would suck up. I bet oil oump wasnt primed(JUST MT GUESS)

Most times in Junkyard or not there is enought oil still in them I would think.

I say with in 5 secs the oilpressure should be up!

Update:
I missed up!
Dam!
I can't get the oil pump shaft in!
As I was taking the L18 apart.
I saw what I did wrong.
I put the timing chain oil splasher on before I put the oil pump gear.
When I should have put it on, After the oil pump gear!

Hello to all.
I have not been able to work on my car the last couple weeks.
I had to take some time to practice for a big Drone race.
I did okay.
Haven't been flying much.
And the weather really hit me hard this year.
98 standing in a open field with no wind.
Just about sent me to the hospital!
Getting things arranged to get back on the car.
I will post in a day or two!

Okay. I removed the seal.
It was super easy.
I went I bought the Seal Remover from Harbor Frieght for 7.99.
New seal was 4.19.

After that I filled the oil pump with oil.
Put the shaft were it was supposed to be using the dot and the grove.
It went together so easy. Like warm butter.

The engine is now waiting on the engine bay and the clutch kit. Edited by Doctoraudio

One 45mm single sidedraft carb has been ordered!
Be here sometime, next week.
Two more powerwashing jobs done!
Going to spary the engine bay this weekend!
And start lining things up to get put back in.
That means wirewheel use on all bolts then lube.
Need to order the new break lines, I will hopefully have enough next weekend!
Last, helping some move for 4 hours today.
All this money is for the car.
All other hobbies are good tell Winter. Edited by Doctoraudio
