Draker
Just get another set https://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/tro/6115675989.html 520/521 trailer with bumperettes. Guy said he would sell the bumpers for $60 you pull or $80 he pulls, but he's not willing to ship. Could be a sweet score for a local. 1 Quote Link to comment

wayno
Bumperettes for $150 on ebay all day long. Is that too much for them? The ones on Ebay don't have the mount brackets. 1 Quote Link to comment

d.p
The ones on Ebay don't have the mount brackets. Ahh makes sense. If one of mine is pushed in is that because the mount is bent? They hard to come by? 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Bumperette mounts/brackets are usually easy to staraighten. I have done several sets over the years. Quote Link to comment

d.p
Yeah I guess I need to have a closer look. Strange too the bent one is rusting and the other straight one is clear as day. 1 Quote Link to comment

d.p
Of course. Passenger side slopes in towards the middle of the truck and rusted to hell whereas the driver is nearly straight and no rust. 1 Quote Link to comment
skyblue
Yea that suckers bent. Is that rust surface or deep? I just learned a trick for cleaning chrome. A Brillo pad with some water takes surface rust away. 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Dunno, never really looked that close at it. Bumperette or mount is bent? I looked at it before and the mount looked ok and it really didnt make sense to me why it was sitting that way. I got a stack of brillo pads and plastic roses from the local gas station. ;) 1 Quote Link to comment
skyblue
Maybe take them off and put them side by side to see what's bent. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Your bracket is bent, try getting under the reat of the truck and compare the looks of both bumperette brackecets to determine where the passenger side is bent. on a bend like that I would use a pipe wrench if it is bent in the midlle of the bracket or if the flange the chrome headed bolt goes through on the end of the bracket is bent I would use a large crescent wrench to straighten it. I seldom use hammers to straighten bumper brackets. 1 Quote Link to comment

wayno
One piece drive shafts, they are just too long, and they were originally used on 60/70hp engines. 2 Quote Link to comment
skyblue
yea. i was going about 75 when it happened. I guess 520 shafts weren't engineered to go that fast? lol 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
Could be a lot of different things that caused it to start to wobble, hitting a pot hole or some debris on the hiway, maybe even the drive line having a different angle at the transmission yoke compared to the angle at the pinion flange, it could even have been a defect in the drive line itself. You can have one made with the math being done first for drive line dimensions(size verses length), it likely will be larger round, or just go back to the 2 piece. I have another 520 drive line here, but that will not get you to Canby. How long did that one last? It could have been a lot worse also. How is the transmission? 2 Quote Link to comment

I put in the 2 degree pinion angle shims and I'm wondering if that had an effect on it too?! Luckily I still have my 2 piece driveshaft so I pieced it back together and put it on so at least it's mobile. Though, I couldn't find the piece that the carrier bearing sits. Does any one have a extra? Not sure if I feel comfortable taking the truck to canby now. The exhaust has a huge hole now and it's so loud. I'm pretty bummed cause I've done a ton of work on the old girl and really wanted to take her up. Undecided. I can't remember exactly how long the 1 piece was on. I want to say 4 years. I did drive the truck to my dads, about 14 miles. Transmission feels ok. 1 Quote Link to comment
skyblue
Dang all bad Yea dude. Was hoping to drive it to datslocos this weekend. Don't think that's happening. Just make a new 1 piece. I would not go back to 2 piece.I dunno. I'm discouraged. 1 Quote Link to comment
