1972 2 door 510 Idaho Spud

Recommended Posts

Well we have a few more Datsun 510 projects going on right now, Some top secret. This one needs as much publicity as possible. Tried to sell it but it was ugly and nobody wants a ugly 510. So the wonderful wife, decided she would change the look of this ugly duckling. I came home from work one day and she was the color of a plumb. She had been sanding on this 510 all day. Still gave her a big kiss. I was thinking she was going to just scuff the surface with a sander, but she pretty much took most the car down to bare metal. It's funny, just sanding a 510 makes it look better. Shortly there after, I decided to take care of a few dings and dents. One thing lends to another and parts get replaced, lic lights get shaved etc etc. Pics are worth a 1000 words and here they are.

Got the floors welded in, I even created a low spot and drain hole, to help out with no rusty floors in the future.

Cleaned, sanded, and seam sealed the trunk

Got everything sealed with a black DTM industrial enamel paint, similar to chassis black

Well were getting to the final sanding time, for this Ratsun swede paint job.

Victory's on it. We started sanding at 5pm, finished at 12pm. The next day got started at 9am and had it painted by 7pm. Now just have to put it back together. How exciting. The body is not perfect, there is still rust in the rear rockers but it is much nicer than it has been. Cool thing about a swede finish, you can add to your body work as you have time, with out driving a gray primer 510.

Still not completely done, but are they ever? Here are a few pics to keep you entertained.

Lowered it, blacked out the window frames, added some 14 inch rims, Started putting as many parts back on that are good enough to use. When we took the car apart, we tossed a bunch of parts. So putting it back together has been a treasure hunt. We also had enough clean interior panels to make a complete black vinyl package. Very Nice

We have Datsun Wednesdays at the shop and house. With the help of other Datsun Heads we got this bitch lowered with wheels

Putting door handles and locks on, while Victory mask out to paint the black window trim

Added some BMW seats. These were the simplest seats i think i have ever installed in a 510

Back seat is very clean, and this car came with interesting seatbelts, that work.

Finishing up touches on this blue boo, SPUD, sold a month ago to a guy in L.A. Should be picking it up early 2011. Sand blasted and blacked out the front and back bumpers, registration, and multiple mile driving test

A little filler work and a dented bumper and some black paint and now looks great
