Alabama, Georgia, nice land.

I am afraid I am far away from you, my data would not help you. There are Datsuns in Florida though.

Found one today!

On my way back from buying an oil cooler I saw a pretty straight ORANGE 200SX. :D super rad!

Right in Spanaway near 176th and 22nd Ave

Went on Google maps and found it in the driveway. ;)

I found two more 1st gen SXs in the last week, here in the wilds of E. Washington. Last Saturday at Pull n Save Spokane - a blue one in not bad shape (actually better than the one I drive). I was happy to get a couple of side window rubber pieces, and will probably get a few more things, but I would rather see the car on the road. Sad to think it will be crushed soon.

Today I saw a '77 I already knew about, but I caught the owner having a yard sale, so I had to ask. It is in nice shape, except for a scraped front fender. Automatic tranny (told my wife it could be her little Datsun. She didn't seem amused), but the P&S car has a dogleg, pedals, etc. Odometer shows 41K, and I suspect it is genuine. Hasn't run in 10 years, and the keys are lost (but I have lots of Datsun keys, so I might get lucky). Asking $600, which seems a good price for a low miles SX. However, I can't get really excited about still another non-running Datsun, even though it is probably an easy fix. I'll be tossin' n turnin' tonight I suspect.

Anyone know a good way to forget about a car you know you shouldn't buy? Drugs, alcohol, finger in a light socket?

Tough to get these things out of your head!! What I did recently when offered a 411sss for a screaming deal, was think about the datsun I truly wanted, my ultimate Datsun. The '58-60 l210. And I knew if I got the 411 I would be hard pressed to get another datsun if I did turn up a '59.

I thought I would stick this ad from Spokane CL here, rather than in the For Sale section, since I really don't imagine anyone on Ratsun will actually buy it, but the 200SX freaks might enjoy the pics of a JDM RHD version of the SX. Maybe someone can capture the pics.

A couple of odd things - I may be mistaken, but I think when this ad was first posted, the asking price was $6500 or $6900; something like that. $4500 seems more realistic for a rather rare car. The other odd thing - there may be two of these cars in Spokane, same color. The one I've seen before was out on E Sprague at a welding shop/foreign car garage. Someone had cut T-tops into the roof and screwed it up. This may be that car, since the roof isn't really visible in the pics. I'll look for the T-top car when I'm in the Big City next. Two JDM Silvias in Spokane might not be impossible, as it is a big Air Force town, and who knows what they might have brought home from Japan.

For me? Alas I'd have to pass. Not that they aren't cool!:D But honestly the next Datsun I'd want is something even older than the 1959. Something from the 30's! You know some sailor brought one back at some point and it is sitting in a barn somewhere, just waiting for me. I heard two of that vintage were on ebay within the last 5 years, and I've seen a few pictures of the fire truck from that era too. I think that is in PA now.

But I'd want that one really ratty so I could make a traditional fenderless all jap ratrod and not feel bad about it!

i do think these gen 1 200sx's are cool though!

OK everyone. I actually have a running 1978 Datsun 200sx for sale. I have 2 of them, so the one that needs most work has to go (per the spouse):

I have it at the following:

http://chicago.craig...2345324270.html

My ad states:

1978 Datsun 200sx w/ Automatic - $1,499.00

I am selling my project (due to overwork at work, I can't find any time to get her looking pretty so I can throw people off at Car Shows).

This is an S10 Silvia (also known as a 1978 Datsun 200sx). It came from Los Angeles, CA earlier last year (I was picking up as a parts car) as I have another one that runs great. THing is, this is (in many ways) in better body condition than my running car. So, instead of parting it out, I am selling this complete.

So... my loss is now the next owners gain.

The car is unmolested and is ready to be turned into a drifter or old school rice racer. A couple of small rust spots (easily resolved) with no rot and the frame is in great shape (very unusual for a Datsun), otherwise what to expect from a 1978 California Car.

It does run (L20b), and the carb was just rebuilt professionally (just put back on, just need to adjust idle). It has (shock of shocks) factory A/C (that will need to be tested) and a 3 speed Automatic transmission (which works fine). The interior seats are in good shape (no tears, stains or rips). Carpet can be cleaned. Interior needs sprucing up, but easily made to look decent (just don't have the time to detail it).

It will need to be painted, but it needs minimal body work (it is afterall, a California Car). Blue Plates come with. The dash does have dry rot (but I have a Dash Cover made for covering the dash to make it look oem and perfect). The tranny shifts. The brakes need bleeding (it sat for a year since being transported) and I have the new bleeder parts and rebuild kit for the master cylinder.. You will have essentially a very rare car that is only getting rarer. Parts are readily available regarding mechanicals (it is standard '70's Nissan.. it shared parts with many Datsuns). The exhaust manifold will need looking at (slight leak).

Clear Illinois Title.

If you buy this car, you will be literally the only person in the Midwest with a running example (that isn't a rust bucket or has rot). If you are creative, you can get a Z 6 cylinder into the car. You'll need to tow it to your house (unless you bleed the brakes before you go). I will demonstrate it does start up, runs, and goes forward and backwards.

I am looking for $1,499.00. If you want to trade, I would only trade for interesting items (I am not interested in Guns or tools or jewelry or trash)...... such as a running Dodge Neon, Ford Escort or Ford Focus worth at least $1,500.00

Only certain people will like this vehicle. I am hoping that it goes to someone who will appreciate it for what it is. If you want this to be a commuter car, you should go to Kia and get a used Kia Rio. This is for old school Japanese car aficionados.

--------------------------------------

FYI everyone, I do have pics (including of the lower rockers etc. to demonstrate no "rot"), and I also have a quicktime video I can email to people (of it running late one evening).

Just click on the email link to email me for more info.

$1,499.00 is going to be a loss for me, but I just can't stand the thought of this one being parted out when it is so close to being someone's every day Datsssssoooooon.

Any thoughts from other 200sx or Datsun fanatics?

Sorry it has taken me several days to answer your post. I'm busy doing everything except working on my cars. You may be the only other guy on Ratsun actually driving a 1st gen SX. It is nice to have some company!

An early SX may be a difficult thing to sell. Love of them is somewhat an acquired taste, or maybe weird fetish, or something. Believe it or not, many otherwise loyal Datsun fans actually hate them (along with the F10). But you only need to find one buyer. I have an idea any model Datsun is more rare there in the midwest than out here on the west coast. So fewer people are searching CL for Datsun, and not seeing your ad. Is there a Wheel Deals type car ad paper in your area? Maybe people don't look at them much anymore now that CL is taking over. Running it on eBay is a possibility, but will cost you a bit of money, even if it doesn't sell. I suppose you saw on the other SX thread that the really nice SX from Vancouver WA sold on eBay for $3240. But it was a super nice one with only 41K miles. I don't think your asking price is bad, but I have no idea what someone in your area might actually pay.

The one thing I think may help sell it is bleed the brakes, so you can advertise it as drivable. I suspect being able to test drive it, and drive it home, and not mess with renting a trailer, etc. would be a huge factor for many people. Are the brake bleeder rusted so you can't open them? Vise grips, or maybe you can rig a 6-point socket on an impact driver to get them loose. Replace them with new if they are too rounded off. Even if the master or wheel cylinders are leaking, you should be able to get it bled enough so someone can drive it away - so long as they understand they need to work on the cylinders if they are leaking.

I don't know what is involved in posting better quality pics on CL. That might help sell it too, if you can post larger, sharper pics with your CL ad. Your test info is great. Much better than 99% of CL ads. Good luck with your sale.
