An EGT gauge is just another monitoring device. It can be used in conjunction with many other monitors (like a wide band or narrow band gauge). Here is a tech page with regards to tuning with an EGT VS X, Y, Z:

Long story short you should use a wideband on an engine dyno or chassis dyno, make note of your EGT and use them as a reference to what your engine is doing under real world conditions.

Im running a Tec3 for engine management (I scrapped all of the factory components less a few sensors). The setup is a complete custom deal so I dont know how much I can actually help you on this one! I can recommed z31performance.com for vg related tech/wiring.

  • 2 weeks later...

here is the drivers side manifold (finished last night). The two manifolds will be connected with a crossover pipe in front of the engine (no pics of it yet).

accross the front huh hmmmm no room to go along the back im guessing? im also guessing that is why the turbo is so far forward correct? how are you going to run an air filter on it?

Yep no room on the backside. The turbo is large in general and the placement is about as close as I can get to the valve cover/radiator/engine and as far away from the relays/fuses/electrical. The turbo placement is also good considering the down pipe will not have to fight with the steering box for space. I will be using a very short filter (I do have space between the headlight and turbo, the pics just dont show it off). I hope to have the car running tomorrow for the Minnesota Sport Compact spring opener.
