68Datsun510
SO i have this 68 510 4 door, KA swap 80% done, rotten body, great suspension. Its a bit rough. I also have the 69, (avatar) great body, good engine, bad suspension. Idea #1 scrap the 68 and put all good parts in the 69. idea #2 build the 68 up as my racer, then have the 69 on the side as the "civilized" dime with a useable back seat, radio, etc. Opinions??? Rest of pics http://s105.photobucket.com/albums/m217/5anddimer/2007%20KA24DE%20install/ Quote Link to comment
jovial_cynic
How rotted is the inside? That looks like a decent shell, really. Quote Link to comment

68Datsun510
All the KA needs is some further clean up from sitting so long, the aluminum oxidized kinda bad. a set of fuel injectors too, and an intake tube. mines crap. I started the project in 07, ran into great difficulty with the efi, gave up due to lack of funds and let it sit for 2 years. had since 03. My first 510, really dont wanna scrap! And go figure, it replaced a Z22E, FI was not new to me, just more complicated. Quote Link to comment

Jason
Hi Cody, welcome to Ratsun! I have to ask why you have a chunk of 2x4 zip tied to your front bumper of the 68 .... ? Quote Link to comment
68Datsun510
Thanks for the welcome, Jason! I was actually counting posts to when someone would ask that! Its to protect the bumper from the chains used to move it around. they would damage it more without it. Quote Link to comment
pl521sss
Save it Fenders are easily replaced but hard to get the correct 68-69 fenders Post pic of the dash and tail light Update your profile (location) What's up with the wood on front bumper? Quote Link to comment

Jason
If it's not structurally rusted, why not turn into a track car. I daily drive 510's still and track ready ones are hard on the back ..... The 69 would make a nice, daily too! Quote Link to comment
68Datsun510
The 69 is my daily! =) The 97 truck is only for super severe weather or moving things. As a matter of fact, i just got back from a 1300 mile trip thru Oregon in it, 28mpg there and back! L20B/hitachi 2bbl ftw! Quote Link to comment
jovial_cynic
Hey Cody - I wasn't 100% positive, but I THOUGHT that was your car. :) Doing well. Been fairly active on here, and finally (this year) got my L/Z motor built up and running. I've been driving around my 510 and have been very happy with it. Don't rip apart that 68. It's too complete to piece out. :( Quote Link to comment
68Datsun510
Well id say that settles it! I didnt get a single person sayin to scrap it! Funny, we both started off with Z22E's, and ended up back with L series! (the 69 anyway) Quote Link to comment
datto510
I vote for you to cut off that chin spoiler and send it to me. Quote Link to comment

banzai510(hainz)
Finnish it,just drive it like that as a Ratsun. othewise why did you do this swap in the first place. fix the other on the side when time permits. otherwise youll have 2 inop cars!!!! Quote Link to comment
hang_510
you have ZERO scrap it votes, operational shots/updates are now mandatory! not many 68's on the road. Quote Link to comment
fo0manchu
I vote scrap it, and donate it to my garage. :D Quote Link to comment
73dime
I vote #2 even though you have already made the right choice. It is probably easy for us to tell you to save it because we will not be doing the work on it, but mostly because it is a 68 and it was your first 510. What kind of chin spoiler is that? It looks to me like a BRE spoiler with the air holes covered, I like it. Looks like a lot of the chin spoilers they are running on the 510's in Japan. Quote Link to comment
