  1. too many pages! But the few I clicked through I loved some of the work I saw... i'm gonna be slowly working my way through this thread.
  2. got pics? I agree just keep it simple.
  3. working hard to get one of the datsuns ready! Just had a z20 block completely rebuilt with new pistons for girlfriends 521, and I just freshened up a head... I am the one putting this thing together so fingers crossed its reliable enough to drive from idaho 🙏 ... it'll be all new parts and untested on a long trip so we might be having a 1 datsun campout somewhere near bend 😄
  4. its crazy the amount of times i've told someone this and they think the sun is bad for them and they need sunscreen to spend any amount of time in the sun...
  5. Yes correct .030 over … I was concerned because the gasket sitting on the block the “fire ring” is extremely close to coming over into the bore… it is right on the edge scary close..
  6. It’s a 1980 720 with l20b 5speed… and a 1987 hardbody with z24i and rare but not preferable 4SPEED… driveline should work but is just a little short for this transmission length correct? Could front shaft be taken from hardbody perhaps? and yes it’s a carbed l20b In the 1980 720.. I have an extra z20 spindle and distributor and intake with a Weber to convert it to carburetor.
  7. Does anyone know if a hardbody transmission and its driveline will fit in a 720? the hardbody has a 1.5inch shorter transmission believe so the stock 720 l20b driveline will be 1.5inches short... is this even an issue is 1.5 inches enough to be an issue with it being a slip yoke it would still technically work right? If I lower the 720 that would also in theory push the driveline farther into the transmission right?
  8. The question im wondering is if the head gasket for a 85mm std bore l20b/z20 will work with myh motor bored 30 over.
  9. Just got my .030 over z20 short block (720) back from the machine shop. with a new std bore l20b head gasket it is very close to the cylinder bore .. like it might fit pretty much exactly on the edge of the wall too close to call if it’s in the cylinder very slightly or not… reading on here some people say a stock head gasket size should fit all the way up to .40 over … my pistons seem to not come out of bore at all .. sorry no pic of gasket on there but I can get one.
  10. we ended up picking this thing up for $400 with a z24i in it and 4speed. It will end up going in the 720, this truck is fairly straight but roof was cut off for warmer california weather then reattached when it came to idaho. So probably make this truck into a trailer or part it out...
  11. Re reading my thread I realize it may not be all that clear where we are with the 521 project currently... The 521 smoked and probably needed rings. Pulled apart L16 to do a cheap fast re-ring job and learned it had bad ridges in the cylinders. Got a 720 (with l20b) and an extra z20 engine in trade. L20b ended up being seized and z20 had bad rust in two cylinders... we ended up biting the bullet and taking in the z20 for a rebuild... bored .030 over, polished crank and rods. stole the parts off l20b that is in the 720 that we needed (head, timing cover, flywheel) did a quick clean up of the head (lapped valves, new seals, and cleaned it well enough) There is a little rust on one cam lobe and I ended up needing to sand it down and now it has some pitting hopefully it works of i am not wanting to have to find a new cam or have this one reground... maybe in the next year or two we ill will build a nice head for it... we should have it together and running in the next couple weeks.. head is ready to go on and most of the parts that bolt on are clean and ready to install... z20 block bored 30 over, l20b head, matchbox dizzy, brand new weber, l16 intake, l16 exhaust mani.... It'll be a pretty nice little setup. This truck will eventually get the 5speed out of 720 when we are ready to pay for driveline work.
  12. there is another "datsunfreak" not sure exactly how his name was spelled on here... named datsun freak because he was big in the freaks of nature mini truck club local to boise Idaho. His name was bill, wasn't ever very active on here but he was big in the formation of all the datsun guys getting together in idaho.
  13. Ok I have a good running hardbody 1987 z24i with the 4speed. I read that the transmission is 30inches in length. Truck is trashed roof cut off dents etc... I also have a 1980 720 l20b 5speed. This transmission I believe is 31.5 inches... Will the complete hardbody drivetrain bolt into the 720? I know what I need to do to get the engine in, I just am wondering if I can get the transmission to interface the reared with either the hardbody driveline or a combo of the two driveshafts. The 720 is just a shell its tranny and parts from engine are being used for a 521 build.
  14. My b210 is a 77 and has the style of intake manifold and exhaust manifold that are connected with a hole in the bottom of intake so fuel hits the top of exhaust manifold before flowing in the ports.. My intake manifold is cracked after trying to remove the pcv valve out of it finally got it (lol)... What years/cars have a intake manifold and exhaust that are not connected/have less smog stuff etc? I have read that a12 intakes will not work because of different port shapes is this true?
  15. love it.. Hope it doesn't smoke like our old 521 we just got running in similar condition.. Had to rebuild an engine for it. you gonna KA swap it if that's the case?
  16. oh my that's beautiful can't wait to get the girlfriends motor back from the machine shop.
  17. need pictures of these 720's. Datsuns don't exist anywhere east of montana.. 😄
  18. Same. All of my friends that either were Antigun or hesitant to own one either wanted to buy one of mine, or help putting one together… I’ve helped build quite a few for people because of the pandemic as well..
  19. Yeah … those are the only two guns I’ve put together completely from them by just buying complete upper and complete lower.. all my other builds I’ve got a stripped lower than slowly pieced together… unless I’m building something extremely lightweight or precision or something I’ll probably just do psa from now on… just traded one of their psa dagger pistols for a 720, I’m kind of a fanboy
  20. Good point… I change everything I said , I’ll just get me one of those single shot pistols that chamber rifle rounds, like 762x39… maybe if multiple attackers I can just wait for them to line up and plan my shot accordingly lol 😂
  21. This thread needs more guns… checkout my 6.5 grendel build I just finished and put a ghetto spray paint, paint job on.. this is my coyote/deer hunting rifle…Troy stock, bushnell scope, olight flashlight my shtf rifle nothing fancy just the basics magpul furniture sig Romeo Msr and a fun pistol build this is the girlfriends gun… unfortunately these were all lost in a crazy kayaking accident in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico 😞 😆
  22. I have a friend and we’ve ran a test in his tattoo shop where one of us sits in his waiting room carrying our concealed gun and the other walks in the shop carrying a knife in pocket. After walking in that person becomes an aggressor and charges person sitting and draws the knife.. never has anyone we have tried this test on been able to draw their gun before being pretend stabbed to death… I also understand that most defensive shootings happen 2feet 2 rounds 2 seconds, so capacity isn’t all that important.. if someone starts shooting at me first and I can’t draw my weapon very fast and need to duck behind some cover and now I’m in some sort of shootout, I want to be up gunned with a reasonable amount of ammo…active shooters are also a current threat and if you shot once or twice, someone else returned fire in your direction once or twice , it would be very possible you would run out of ammo quickly… better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it ….
