  1. they do have ribs no ameri racing stamp anywhere… there’s a little round stamp but I can’t tell what’s inside the circle
  2. there’s no orange anywhere that I can see it does look pretty similar though!
  3. Picked up this 2 door 1972. $3000 came most of the way disassembled . No windshield, missing part of grill and missing dash pieces… has fiberglass bre style fenders and has the rear bre flares as well… my first major welding and body work project.. someone replaced the rockers and some of the rear quarter and they are already rusting again and there’s some new rust holes. Floors are solid and a lot of the panels aren’t bad, mostly quarters and rockers needing attention.. Im sure I’ll need some advice before long and I need to get all the parts out of it and see if anything else is missing .. came with a good l20b from a 620 and original 4 speed.. plans right now are to clean up this shell weld any patches it needs and do the body work … prime and paint and I think I will just rivet the rear flares back on… Unless someone has a good how to on bonding and molding flares into the body? Are these real American racing wheels ?
  4. Haven’t had time to diagnose… but I went out and looked at it and now the fuel filter was full of gas… tried starting it took a second for carb to fill them started up great… ran it for 30 seconds and shut off looked at fuel filter and it was empty… this is so weird because I run it out of gas carb and fuel line and all then it’s off and somehow it has gas in the filter from sitting… but then only run for a bit and it’s running out of gas in the line again.. I think a rust line is the best explanation but I don’t get it ..
  5. started pulling motor and labeling everything on the harness. pulled the radiator, there was oily sludge that came out at the tail end of draining the radiator not a lot maybe like 6-8oz.. Probably a blown head gasket or warped head?.. Engine was running great, no smoke. Oil looks oily no chocolate milk or visible coolant in the oil. Just oil in the coolant... I should probably do at least a gasket rebuild and a head flatness check huh?
  6. There’s no glass window in the Weber.. it’s a brand new Weber so I don’t think sticky needle and seat but maybe 🤔… carb issues wouldn’t cause the fuel filter to all of a sudden lose gas and show empty would it? I’m gonna try running off a gas can eliminate each part one at a time until i figure it out… pickup in tank looked to be in pretty good shape and it’s seemed clear unclogged when I cleaned everything..
  7. Yeah definitely have spark and definitely not getting gas, you can see that the fuel filter is bone dry when it has the no start condition… it comes and goes running great then all of a sudden gets no gas, then you start it the next day or whatever and gets gas great… Removed tank and soaked in clr and pressure washed it has a little surface rust inside otherwise it’s pretty clean in there… sprayed fuel line back and forth but the first little bit of gas was pretty black when I put it together so maybe it’s just that fuel line intermittently is clogging?… when I put it back together it started right up, turned it off figured it was fixed, next day started it up to go to the gym and wouldn’t start at all no gas… thought it had to be fuel pump sometimes losing prime and not pumping but no that can’t be it.. was also thinking bad rubber line at tank with big air leak or something but now we have all new rubber lines…
  8. Changed fuel pump still intermittently not getting gas. Maybe the fuel line is clogging ? I can’t see how if I was able to spray carb cleaner through the line.. maybe I just need to change out the hard line?
  9. Still having fuel issue… Removed tank and cleaned pretty good just a small amount of surface rust in there now but overall pretty clean. Blew into pickup tube it’s not plugged or anything… Used carb cleaner to blow out the lines and carb cleaner flowed out both ways.. replaced all the rubber lines with new.. put in 5 gallons of good gas cranked it over and it started right up fuel filter filled with gas all the way.. gas was really dirty in the filter but I figure that was just the carb cleaner spraying out the lines and running it would clear it up the rest of the way… went to start it a couple days later and now it’s hardly getting any fuel again and not starting… at this point I feel like it can only be some sort of plug in the fuel line from rust or something, or a bad fuel pump. It’s odd that sometimes it gets gas fine then it will 100% without any warning stop getting gas and not run at all Thoughts?
  10. Thanks for the constructive input… im going to swap the hardbody bellhousing on the 720 5speed, driveshaft and everything will bolt right in fine… napz uses same motor mounts will also bolt right in… radiator may not work from hardbody haven’t tried it, but if not I’m sure a 720 radiator from A year that had the napz will either bolt in or will atleast fit after I drill 4 holes for it… the swap it’s self will be the easy part, I’m worried about the wiring only one person I know of has done the tbi setup.. but I’m sure between ratsun and help from Datsun friends I’ll figure it out…
  11. We have a 521, and a b210 that we care about sinking money into… the rusty 720 just needs a motor it’s never going to be nice it’s all rusty and beat up just trying to get it on the road with what I have … only a total fool would invest the money necessary to swap a nicer more modern drive train in such a beat up junky truck… I traded a handgun for the 720, and I paid $400 for the hardbody.. after I swap the motor in the 720 I should hopefully be $1000 +or- into the 720 that’s an amount I’m comfortable with seeing as it’s a piece of shit and not much more than a dump run truck etc… it will have throttle body injection and that will hopefully be the perfect setup for me seeing as I just want something simple and reliable enough to drive around my tiny town and go pick up a bale of straw or whatever with it…I will enjoy the being able to start it on scold morning from time to time but I don’t need the full on performance of modern efi… also I’m trying to save what I can of the hardbody because I don’t want to junk parts that are getting increasingly more rare everyday without saving everything I can…. Also I’m more of a l20b napz guy I like the older motors in the Datsuns, I just spent a thousand + dollars rebuilding a z20/l20b hybrid motor, not because it’s more powerful or more modern but because it’s what I like…. This is just a support vehicle for the Datsuns I actually want to spend my money on…
  12. It’s 45psi by what I’ve read…
  13. Ok now that I have my plan (thanks for your input) do you think it's wise to replace head gasket along with other gaskets while I have it out, maybe valve stem seals etc... Or just retorque head and run it until it has issues one day and do a full rebuild then? engine has 123k on it I'll probably start working on pulling engine and carefully labeling the wire harness this week sometime

    Wagon

wagons are sweet.. they are getting hard to find for a reasonable price or for one in ok shape.. I would for sure keep an eye out on marketplace and craigslist and jump on one when an ok one comes up for a few grand or less, deals still come up but you have to be fast.
  15. Ok well I think i've decided to change the 720 over to TBI using all the bits from the d21. I'll install the z24I full setup in the 720... Probably use the 5speed in the 720 and do the bellhousing swap. Ill save spindles brakes etc from the hardbody and maybe the rear-end... try to sell the hood, bed, and other body panels, or possibly make a bed trailer before scrapping the remains... mike can you move this thread to 720 or project datto? I'll document what I do to get this swap working in the 720..
  16. will the d21 bellhousing go onto the original Lseries 5 speed in the truck?
  17. I wonder how difficult it is to save all the throttle body injection bits and retrofit. edit found this how to, and I think I might try to do this I mean why not I have everything.. http://nissannut.com/projects/z24i_fuel_injection/ This would be perfect for the 720 to just make it a reliable driver etc..
  18. damn it looks so good with paint and flares, for some reason the king cabs look the best flared. Love it put your hood trim piece back on the one that finishes off the grill top edge... it would look so much cleaner from the front with that back on...
  19. okay so along with motor tranny and driveline I should also grab rear end or no? okay I'll deff get the front hub stuff and brakes I assume that will let me run drop spindles too so thats nice good idea...
  20. I think i've decided to part it out and scrap the remains... got the title today and it came with 3 bill of sales, one from original owner to someone, then that someone to someone else etc.. I don't want to deal with making that legit. so its a parts truck if anyone needs anything cheap engine and tranny are being used for 720
  21. Correct z24i with the 4 speed 1988 truck if I use the power train out of d21 I plan on ditching efi and I have some of the parts to convert it to normal z24 720 is a 1980 l20b 5 speed want to see what you guys think about the d21 with its wierd cut off roof … worth saving or part it out?
  22. should I save this D21 or part it out and use the motor and tranny in my 720? I got them both for parts originally. stole the head, flywheel, and timing cover off the bad l20b in the 720... Was planning on using the powertrain from the d21 in the 720 but I feel bad because it started right up and runs pretty good... D21 only has 123k miles, its in fairly good shape for sitting in a field for a while, but someone cut the roof off in california, then when it came to idaho it was glued back on with like caulk or something... Would you use this d21, weld the roof back on better and drive it... or use it for parts? I don't want to have two junky trucks sitting around so I need to make a plan... I plan on keeping the 720 for sure, but if I don't use the motor and tranny out of the d21 I will have to rebuild a motor and source a l20b head, timing cover, and a flywheel... my options as I see them... 1. Sell the D21 as a running truck for 1k or so and use that money for some of the 720 engine rebuild and finding the parts I need.. 2. take out the d21 drivetrain and scrap it or part it out, maybe make a bed trailer out of it....use the drivetrain in 720 3. clean up the d21 keep it as a beater dump run truck 4. weld the roof on better and make it kinda nice?
