280z harmonic balancer interchange question

I'm having a hard time finding a balancer at a sane price, what other engines can the balancer be sourced from?, how about a L20B? or the z24? going by looks alone ....it looks the same.

They are engine specific, not super expensive, last one I saw was about $180, check flea bay.

'70-'83 would be the L24/26/28z and zx.  I thought there was an outer ring sandwiching a rubber sleeve? What are the bolt holes for? extry pulleys?

Yep...ad is misleading. Only Z has balancer. Maybe pic is just a representation of said part and not actual.

...... the 2-threaded bolt holes ?......allows for the puller tool to bolt up , and carefully evenly pull off the balancer during disassembly. I'm sure it would have to be the case

That's a 2-piece.  The outer ring is shared with MGB.  The inner hub is different.  You can see the rubber "ring" on the face, separating the two halves.

Looks just like the harmonic balancer on my 65 mustang. The rubber piece eventually gets cracked and worn and your timing marks will be off then you will scratch your head why ur car is pinging. When mine was went out, my timing was off by 10 degrees

The parts description says something about single versus double groove. So apparently the application description covers more than stock applications.

Thanks, the Jegs link is a single pulley...and I need 2 as I have ac. too bad as the price is good.

The dayco is about $200...ouch.

 

No one knows if a L20b is a fit?

Pretty sure they will fit. The Z20/22 and 24 seem to have a balancer on them and are three pulley for air/PS. All L20Bs have a single solid pulley excerpt the S10, last year 620  and first year 720 L20Bs but they also had air con.

All L20B's I've seen had double pulley, one for the Alternator/Water pump and one for the smog pump, except trucks with A/C that had a 3-row pulley.  Cars with A/C ran the smog pump off the A/C compressor pulley.  Only single-row ones I've seen for L-series were L16/L18 WITHOUT A/C or a Smog pump (some L16s had a smog pump, so 2 row), and they have the timing marks in the wrong place for anything else.  In all cases, there were a cast pulley, not a damper.

Had L16, L18 and L20, never had balancer. Timing marks were different, L16 was on pulley, L20 had a tab.

Sorry I said single. Meant solid only. The third V was air con. I think the S10 and '79 and '80 L20Bs had three even if not used?

Here's an original one on ebay, but it looks pretty ratty. You can have these re-vulcanized, but it costs about $300 to get done.

Don't look good. The hard rubber part maybe all cracked up and the ur timing will be off cuz they do twist.

He isn't serious. If he were he would sell it much cheaper.  But I am wondering if the OP gave the JY a chance.
